G26 Range Report

Well, I replaced my troublesome Kahr P9 with a G26 (email me or search these forums if you want details on my P9 problems) and took it out to the range today.

Already owning a G17, I was not disappointed by the G26. At 7 yards the first round was just a bit low, but the next 10 plunked into one ragged hole about the size of a silver dollar...about 1 1/2 inches left of point of aim. Rolling the target back to 15 yards, the groups grew a bit, but 9 out of 10 shots could be covered by the bottom of a soda can. (No beer cans on the range! ) Windage was about 2 1/2 inches left. I got an occasional flyer, which I put down to either the lighting on the range or the short grip. Once I decide on my "carry" ammo, I'll bring my homemade "Glock sight pusher" along and drift the rear sight until it's in zero.

Shot up 2 boxes of white-box WIN USA 115 ball ammo, and about another box of assorted leftovers - 115 Silvertip, 115 Gold Dot, Remington 115 JHP +P, and Federal 115 JHP - with flawlwss function. Then a final box of WIN USA, during which I deliberately tried to induce a "limp wrist" malfunction by unlocking my wrist and holding the pistol loosely with just my thumb and trigger finger. No dice - functioning was perfect, until the very last shot when the slide didn't hold open...and I'm thinking that my thumb may have been riding the slide release. (It's a slide release dummy, not a safety! Too much 1911 shooting, maybe?)

I put a Pearce grip adapter on one of the stubby 10-round mags, but it makes it a bit more difficult to lock into place. And the middle of my pinky doesn't fit in the groove anyway, it lays on top of the bottom hook. Haven't decided whether I'll just put the OEM floorplate back on or not.

So the pistol looks like a keeper.

It came with a trigger lock (to be tossed), two fired cases (reloadable!) but no owner's manual...next time I'm at the dealer, I'll get one, but in the meantime, can anyone shed some light on whether or not the G26 is "officially" rated for use with +P+ ammo?

And any advice for an IWB holster would be appreciated.

Congrats! I am sure you will be very happy with your 26. I know mine has been flawless.
I would suggest getting a Don Hume ISWB holster, They are not over priced and are very good quality holsters and are quite comfortable. Also, you can use it for when you get the Glock 19 ;)
Since the holster for the 19 and 26 are interchangeable.

Hello. I wound up with my G26 via the same route as you and have never been disappointed. I did add Arotek sights rather than the factory plastic jobbies and a Wolff 2-piece all steel recoil spring guide. The gun has never malfunctioned and with one change of the rear sight (different height), it now hits dead on for me with the +P ammo of preference at 15 yards.

To me, it is the little "uglymopotomus," but it gets "prettier" each time I use it.

Best.

All Glock 9mm pistols are chambered for 9x19 (9mm NATO) which is pretty much equal to +P+ and maybe even a little hotter.

HankB,

Your honest post is refreshing! (Glock owners often claim flawless functioning for 100,000+ rounds, without cleaning!)

I have big hands and added the Pearce grip extensions before I ever fired the G26. I do not know if it is a problem with the grip extensions but I sometimes have to pound the mag in place and force the mag catch to home if 10 rounds are in the mag. I also have had problems feeding with a full magazine. So I only carry with 1 in the chamber and 8 in the mag. This has been 99.5% reliable.

The G26 is a pleasure to shoot with full power ammo. It is comfortable, the low barrel gives little muzzle flip and the unpredictable trigger makes it the most accurate pistol in
my hands!

Good luck!

Regards,
George

Glock puts out an annual promotional magazine that, a couple of years ago, addressed the issue of +P ammo. The word is - shoot it! Glocks are meant to handle hot ammo. My G26 loves Fiocchi for practice (hot!) and Corbons too.
