G20 vs EAA Witness, Range Report

Range Report for EAA Witness 10mm and Glock G20 10mm.

FIRST AND FOREMOST: THE FOLLOWING LOAD DATA IS FOR MY GUNS ONLY AND THIS DATA IS PROVIDED FOR COMPARISON ONLY. I ACCEPT NO LIABILITY FOR ERRORS IN TRANSCRIPTION OR USE.

Conditions 80 to 85 degrees, 5 to 10 mph wind (from the rear) and 75% humidity. Barometric Pressure was 30.05. Experienced no failures to feed in either weapon. This is the first outing for the G20, ie: brand new and the Witness had 1498 rnds fired prior to this outing. Found the G20 15rnd mags hard to load last rnd, but seemed to loosen up after a few uses. Shot 14 rnds of 155 grn Winchester FMJ loaded with 11.0 grns of Blue Dot and CCI300 primers to 1.250 COL. Pressure ring of .4329 to .4325 with minor bulges. Group at 15 yds was about 3”. G20 seems to slip a lot in the hand. Shot 50 rnds of 135 grn Nosler JHP with 9.6 grns of Power Pistol to 1.250 COL and starline cases. Pressure ring of .4295 to .4300 for the eaa with a 2.5” 15 yd target for 25 rnds. Pressure ring for the G20 is .4329 to .4335 with a 25 rnd target of 4” mostly due to slippage of the gun. Lots of sweat causing problems, but a good load, repeat?. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn Remington JHP’s 13.1 grns of AA9 with starline brass and cci 300 primers to 1.250 col. Pressure ring of .4295 to .4301 for the eaa with 3” group for the 25 rnds. Good blast, nice load, repeat it. Pressure ring for the G20 is .4330 to .4335, with 3.25” group for the 25 rnds. Lots of blast and accurate, repeat, No real buldging of the brass. Shot 5 rnds of 180 grn Remington JHP with 8.2 grns of Power Pistol, R+P brass and CCI300 primers to 1.250 COL. Pressure ring of .4295 to .4299 for witness. Good load, repeat. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn Remington FMJ with 9.6 grns of Blue Dot and Starline Brass with CCI300 primers to 1.250 COL. Pressure ring of .4292 to .4295 for the witness and a 3” group for 25 rnds. Pretty mild load though. Pressure ring for the G20 is .4320 to .4322 with a 3” group for 25 rnds. Reasonable load, seemed a bit mild. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn Remington JHP’s with 9.5 grns of Blue Dot and Starline Brass, CCI 300 primers to 1.250 COL. Pressure ring of .4285 to .4288 for the witness, 3.5” group for 25 rnds, and a pretty mild load. Pressure ring of .4315 to .4321 for g20, and 4” group for 25 rnds. Very mild, probably need more powder.

Personal comments:
Witness and G20 triggers felt very similar in let off weight, but the Witness was crisper. Recoil was much milder in the all steel Witness over the G20. Accuracy was probably limited by me more then the guns or ammunition. G20 is very easy to control for 15 rnd bursts and easy to shoot. G20 has kind of a squishy feel during recoil compared to the witness. Pretty easy to shoot overall. Overall they are both very similar with neither being exceptionally better or more accurate then the other. I need to put some more rnds down them before I pass judgement. G20 was much smoother for the “DA” type trigger, it is merely stroked to fire, while the witness requires a smooth pull for full “DA” type shooting. I had problems keeping a good grip on the G20, and probably need some tape or a grip sleeve. I will continue this test tomorrow with more rnds.

Which do I "like" more?????

Right now from a reloading and a general shooting perspective I like the witness more. Better trigger and easier recoil. For raw firepower though the g20 has its place with 16 rnds of 10mm available.

"G20 is very easy to control for 15 rnd bursts and easy to shoot." So, you went pseudo full auto with a 10mm too? I've got a friend who can do that with his 20 stoked with Silvertips, and keep them on target.
 
Asked because I had a M20, kept spending $ hoping I'd like it (liked 19 + 1!), but finally sold it due to dislike of 'feel' (yes, did grip reduction too).

Have both size Witnesses (every caliber BUT 10mm), and really really like them. Was considering the 10mm version as my next new gun.

Well it certainly was not full auto, but the 15 rnd burst was a quick as I could pull the trigger. Very easy to keep all of the rnds in a silhouette target and have more then one piece of brass in the air at a time. They are both turning out to be fun to shoot.

Lead seems to hang up on feed ramp. This does not occur with newer magazines. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn FP lead with 9.6 grns of AA7, cci300 primers, winchester brass, and 1.245 COL in the witness. Some failures to feed, old magazines may be the problem, very accurate, 2.5”, 50 rnd groups. .4300 to .4306 PR expansion on eaa, repeat. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn FP lead with 12.0 grns of AA-9, cci-300 primers, winchester brass and 1.245 COL in witness. Pretty accurate, about 2.5” 50 round group, may need a bit more powder. PR of .4296 to .4303 eaa. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn FP lead with 9.2 grns of AA-7, cci300, winchester brass and 1.245 COL in the witness. Seemed mild and about the same accuracy as others 2.5” 50 rnd groups. PR of .4301 to .4303 eaa, repeat? Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn FP lead with 12.5 grns of AA9, CCI300 primers, winchester brass and COL of 1.245 in witness. Reasonably accurate, 3” 50 rnd groups, good blast and reliable. PR of .4306 to .4312 eaa. May be approaching max for EAA and 180 grn lead. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn Remington JHP’s with 12.5 grns of AA9, CCI300 primers, R&P brass and 1.245 COL in witness. Accurate, 2.75” 50 rnd groups, PR of .4292 to .4299 (some nicks in brass) so pretty mild, need more powder. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn Winchester JHP’s with 8.0 grns of Power Pistol, cci300 primers, Starline brass, and COL of 1.250 COL in g20. Reasonable accuracy 3.25” 50 rnd groups, gun slips in hand a bit. PR of .4333 to .4338 g20, more powder?, very minor buldge. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn Winchester JHP’s with 5.4 grns of Univ. Clays, CCI300 primers, Starline brass and a COL of 1.250 in g20. Reasonably accurate 3.25” 50 rnd groups, but still fighting the slippage problem. PR of .4320 to .4323 g20, need more powder. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn Remington TMJ’s with 8.6 grns of AA5, CCI300 primers, Starline brass and a COL of 1.250 in g20. Very mild, and ok accuracy, 3.5” 50 rnd groups. PR of .4324 to .4329, needs more powder. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn Remington TMJ with 10.0 grns of Blue Dot, CCI300 primers, Starline Brass and a COL of 1.250 in g20. Shotgun pattern! 5" 50 rnd groups. Do not repeat. PR of .4324 to .4328 G20. Shot 50 rnds of 180 grn Winchester JHP’s, with 10.0 grns of Blue Dot, CCI300 primers, Starline brass and a COL of 1.250 in g20. Shotgun pattern, 6” groups with 50 rnds. Do not repeat. PR of .4326 and .4329.

Overall they are both very similar with neither being exceptionally better or more accurate then the other. I am still finding the G20 hard to hold onto and keep aimed correctly. Seemed to slip in my hands during firing. Definitely need some better grips or tape.
