The Georgia Firearm Owners Defense League needs your support! We are gearing up for the state legislative session this year so we can introduce our bill that would repeal the "public gathering" law for citizens licensed to carry firearms in the state of GA. If you are a GA resident with a Georgia Firearms License to carry, then you already know that you cannot carry to a "public gathering" (as printed on the back of the license),and since the current law is so vaguely written, vitually any place in public could be considered a public gathering. In addition to not being allowed to carry to a public gathering with a firearms license, your license is also not valid if you want to carry on a bus or rail vehicle, state parks, wildlife management area - except when hunting, non sterile areas of a airport and anywhere on airport property or other property providing public transportation, and even Stone Mountain (not even a state entity) even has their own law aganist possession of firearms within the municipal boundries of the park - with or without a license and even their "ordinance" is in violation of state law! Bet you didn't know those places where off limits by looking at the back of your license.

As the laws stand now, a license to carry in Georgia is basically useless. Our bill we plan to introduce will restore the right to carry and invalidate useless restrictions that make criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens. We need as many voices as possible to get this bill pushed through. Anyone able and willing please join us in restoring our right to carry that the legislature has trampled on the past 130 years. Thanks

I'm interested in your bill

ICP_juggalo,

I looked at the Georgia General Assembly's web site, but I do not find any firearms bills ( http://www.legis.state.ga.us/ ). Who is or will be sponsoring this bill?

Every point you raised about Georgia's carry laws is correct, as far as I've been able to learn from the law, AG opinions, and judicial decisions. Georgians are definitely ill-served by the present law. It does make law-breakers out of good, well-intentioned citizens.

I would urge every Georgian to contact their state senator or representative and urge them to revise our firearms laws. Georgians should have a right to carry a concealed weapon, be it a firearm or other defensive device, without worry about senseless restrictions such as defined in the "public gatherings" verbage  we currently have.

If you live in Georgia and you own a gun, you definitely have a dog in this fight (even if you don't know it right now!). Please, call and write your senators and representatives. If you call or write, they WILL respond. :)

Use the web address above to find your elected officials. Make your voices heard. :)

Hey gkbikers, glad to see you here.

I can't say who we are getting to sponsor our bill, but I can give a hint to it probably being the same legislator that has sponsored bills like this in the past. We are still working on some finer points that won't raise "red flags" down the road. I will say this though, it is a shame we don't have Brian Joyce and Mitchell Kaye back in the legislature. Those two are big proponents of CCW and would most likely back our bill.

Sheer numbers will let us be heard
