FWIW Ruger 454

Per my poll a while back, I picked up a new SRH 454 last week.

well, I'm impressed to say the least. The gun is a pleasure to shoot, havn't gone too hot in it yet, so far 32 gr H110 behind a 300 gr bullet is tops.

put a 2x Leupold on it and sighted it in at 100 yards with Win 260 gr partition gold (not enough brass yet to sight it in with my reloads) well it put 5 shots in 5 1/2", 4 of them in 2 3/4" I considered this decent for factory ammo my second time shooting the gun.

the only negative I have seen so far is that Magtech brass will not eject from it at all, I had to pull my pliers and pull them out 1 by 1.

I am very happy so far, FWTW

Ruger 454

Good choice. I've had similar good performance with mine. At the range after shooting a 454 the 45 acps and the 10mms feel like a .22.

I have shot a SRH in .454, and it did okay. I think I'm going to go for the .480 next month.

I have been very impressed with Hodgdon Lil'Gun in the .44 mag and .22 hornet, anxious to try it in the .45 Colt Bisley Blackhawk Ruger I bought a week ago. Give it a try in your new wristwhacker. :D

I think the Ruger SRH 454 is great. Mine had some initial teething problems, but Ruger took care of it. I use 30 grains of Win 296 and the Hornady 300 gr XTP-Mag bullet. Very shootable.

NOW try it with .45 Colts.

It should feel like a .38 with target wadcutters, it'll be comparably accurate, (My friend's is.) and it won't cost monstrous amounts of money for factory ammo.

I suppose ammo cost is somewhat immaterial in the context of handloading, but what do you suppose those 300's would be like loafing along at a sedate 800-900 fps, and how fast could you shoot them with the expectation of good groups?

I dunno. I realize that's not what people buy these guns for, but it's fun. Just a suggestion.

Yup that's pretty good description, 255 gr rnfps over 8 gr unique, feels like shooting a 22:D :D

I'll have to get back to you on this one;)
