Fusion 1911 Frames?

I am looking at a commander type Fusion aluminum(7075-series?)alloy frame with which to convert a Colt into a lightweight commander. Are Fusion's frames and parts well though of, or are they considered hit an miss? I know at one time their custom 1911's were considered to be of random QC!

I used a Fusion alloy frame for my custom CCO, built by Sam Hatfield. The pistol is almost surgically accurate, and my only nitpick on the frame is that the front strap checkering (25LPI) is not as sharp and clean as that on my Kimber or Springfields. But it works!

You see thats exactly what I have heard about them, that they are nice but fall short on the refinements, on the one Fusion frame I have handled, I also found the checkering to be sub-par, almost as if the product of a casting were it not known to be a forging!

Yeah, Sam told me after he built it that he prefers Caspian or Colt lightweight frames over Fusion. Last time I checked, Caspian's only lightweight option was titanium, but more than I wanted to spend.

No experience using their frames, but I have used a couple of their parts and they are good to go. They all appeared to be high quality barstock (as opposed to Wilson forged).

I purchased one several years back to build a full dust cover custom Commander in .40S&W.

The frame I received had some small pin holes from the casting process, greatly complicating the final finish process. Frame was mechanically fine, but it should have been sold as a "blem" frame.
