Further Proof of the Need for Self-Defense

oh geeze....

oh crazy!!!

I have a very attractive 25yr old fiancee (im 24), and she refuses to carry a gun...

I ended up getting her a buncha pepper spray. better than nothing.

Im in college, so is my gf. When she goes to her night class, (thank god her final for that was last night) I would pick her up or arrange for my roommate to pick her up. There have been a few rapes around my campus, so im extra careful. Its stuff like this that make me want to walk with her to class with gun in hand.

If you look up Chico State you'll see the ammount of crime around my area latley, college areas are going to hell, all of these POS come to the college towns to prey upon the students, im sure thats what happened to this girl.

I know of 10-20 people who have been mugged or just gotten the crap kicked out of them, within 300 yrds of my house.

I am so sorry to hear that Chico has evolved into such a place. In the 1950's & 1960's CSC was a safe haven for students, maybe a little wild during pioneer week! It was not a town that had muggings or a high rate of assault.

My Best to you and Stay Safe

My parents were here in the 70's and sister came here in 99-04, no problems, when I came here in '05 it wasn't that bad. its the last 2 years. a lot of people from richmond/oakland have brought and unwanted "gangsterness" to Chico.

Its unfortunate

I had cops show up to my old apartment twice for domestic violence calls. I had one roommate. so I'll cut to the chase the went to the wrong complex. two different officers too. the second time they showed up I am answered the door and saw it was the police. the first words out of my mouth was this is not fox point, maybe you missed the huge sing out front. fox point has a equally huge sing right by their entrance. it took me at least 10 minutes to convince each of the officers that they went to the wrong place. it probably didn't help that I would not let him come in and look around. I had to grab a piece of mail to convince the guy that he was a moron. as he left I said to him that I hoped that that lady didn't really need you while you were screwing around here. he was less than amused but what ever he should learn to read and figure out addresses. its not like the addresses were even on the same side of the street that I could see that getting you, but there is absolutely no excuse for two different officers showing up at our door because you can't find or read an address.

Cops are hardly my savior; I trust my life to my brain and my gun. Cops are just back-up and janitors for the mess. They do a wonderful job policing the masses, but when I'm faced with a threat, it’s me and the BG first; cops arrive on the scene after the threat is gone. That could be because the bad guy got me and fled, but I’m hoping I get him first.

Scooby, I don't understand your hostility. I am going to let you in on a law enforcement. secret PEOPLE LIE TO THE POLICE. I don't want to get into a who struck john arguement regarding the wrong address issue. However, if I am responding to a call for help at your address and I reasonably believe you to be lying to me and there is a threat to life or physical safety i would contact a sgt and make a forced entry.

There is a tendency to want an adversarial relationship with the police for no good reason. I don't think they came to your door to hassle you or violate your rights, they came to answer someone's call for help

Some years back, two of my coworkers were arguing over whether it was better to have a cell phone or a gun. The first one said a gun was far superior but the second was adamant that he would much rather have a cell phone since it would allow him to summon help.

Later that day, a third person brought up a news story about a man killed by an alligator, to which the first coworker immediately replied--I'll bet he wished that he had a cell phone. The cell phone advocate had no response.

When you need a gun, there's not much else that will fill the bill.

Sad he can't see the gun would give him time TO call for help and wait till it gets there.

Ask him this... if he was having a heart attack, would he prefer the guy next to him have training in CPR and First Aid, or a cell phone?

See if you can't last those first few minutes, then the EMT response in academic. Same with an attacker. Cell phone is great, but the gun keeps you alive till the calvary gets there.

the side of most cop cars in my state say this"to serve and protect" what it should say is this, "to pick up the pieces" hell by the time they do get there its over.

Or "to write the report."

I think most LEOs would love to get there in time to stop the bad guy and save the damsel in distress. That is why they became a cop. But 9 times out of 10, they won't be there in time, through no fault of their own -- that's just the way it is.

Good story.

And once again, just cause you have that phone, it doesn't mean that you can summon help in time to make a difference.

In my younger days I lived in the LA area and played in a band that practiced in an extremely dingy part of Downtown LA. I was driving away from the practice studio and after about a block I saw two guys, looked like bums, wrestling on the ground. One was on top of the other guy and looked like he had the upper hand, pounding on his opponent. So I stop for a few seconds to make sure I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing, especially as it was a dimly lit area. So I decide to keep driving, but I call 911 to report the incident and get the fuzz to roll onto the scene and put some ice on that fire. I kid you not, 20 minutes later, as I'm just about home, they answer. So I tell the dispatcher what I saw, and she says to me: "Are you sure they were "fighting"? I guess as if to suggest that maybe they were, uh, I don't know, engaged in a "non-violent" encounter? I was somewhat startled by that question. I told her "Yeah I think so, it didn't look like a romantic outing to me". Another time I called to report some debris on the freeway, again almost a 20 minute wait. So having a cell phone may only guarantee that the authorities get there just in time to throw your carcass in a body bag. :o
