Fun reliable 22s

One of the most exciting seems the last few years for me has been the explosive expansion of 22lr clone guns. SGS MP5 seems to have started it, but now it seems to me like it just keeps growing.
As far as hunting/defense goes it seems more and more like I need less and less and the 22lrs are just so much fun.

Is it just my perspective? I have only ben buying firearms for about 6 years, so maybe they were all around before and they are just more visible to me now.

A friend of mine has an AR pistol in 22LR. He put a holographic sight and laser on it and it is fun on a bun. I'm not real excited about the 10/22 kits - they look like Airsoft to me - but I like the M&P 15-22. Still, I can shoot my S&W 22A all day and be perfectly happy.

I really think it started with the 'Obama Scare' back in 2008. Ammo prices went through the roof, and 22's soared in popularity.

I thoroughly enjoy my Henry lever action. I reload my ammo so the price pinch hasn't hit me as hard, but I still like plinking with the 22.

I think it is part of the change all around us. People are buying smaller houses, cars, and living with less. Now if we can all eat less so we're no longer the fattest nation on this planet.

If you enjoy the sport of shooting, pulling the trigger behind a 5 cents/round rifle is just as fun and enjoyable as a $2/round caliber.

I think Chris in Va hit on a good part of the whys and how comes but they wouldn't of lasted very long if they weren't fun.

For a long time I poo-poo'd the tacticool rimfires as a waste but my heart has softened substantially. It's actually to the point where IMO tacticool .22's have switched places with their centerfire brothers in the "like to have" category. Today, I have little desire or need to spend money buying and shooting semi auto centerfires and the rimfires make so much more sense. If I'm gonna do run and gun drills or plink why not do it with a rimfire instead of wallet emptying centerfires. The same thinkin applies to target and long range shooting.

My only issue is the cost of tacticool .22's. I've always been a value based guy and to me a $200 10/22 with a stack of BX25's will provide all the fun I need at half the cost of the more tacticool looking guns. If I'm gonna spend extra money on something it had better have a function not just be based on looking cool.

I have yet to purchase a black or tactical 22 rifle. I look at them a lot, but I don't see much use in them for anything other than plinking (a good sport however). For shear plinking fun, the 10/22 serves well with the available larger capacity magazines. But it is a case of different stokes for different folks and I may eventually buy the S&W version.

^^^^^ true dat !

when reloading supplies became impossible to get a while back,I re-discovered the fun and joy of .22 shooting.they go to the range with me on every trip now.

the tactical .22 carbines are selling like hotcakes, and I may have to get one 'just because'.good enuff reason,eh?? :)

for now my 10-22 and hicaps do a good job at the steep plate matches, and my recently acquired Ruger MK2 22/45 is just soooo much fun to shoot on the cheap ! .22's ROCK

If I'm out to just have fun,,,

It's difficult to beat my Beretta NEOS Carbine kit.

I shoot with a variety of friends,,,
One group likes to go out with their AR style .22 rifles.

I considered buying one of those for myself last Christmas time,,,
But since I already had 2 NEOS pistols hanging around,,,
I decided it was cheaper to go the carbine kit route.

At least it was until I decided to buy another pistol,,,
So I would have a dedicated lower just for it. :o

Now this little shooter won't win any serious accuracy contests,,,
But It's easily minute of soup can at 50 yards,,,
And can shoot just as fast as their rifles.

The picture shows it with a 4X scope,,,
I recently replaced that with a 40mm red dot optic,,,
Cabela's had one on sale for $39.95 and it's much more appropriate.

For pure ammo wasting fun,,,
This little guy absolutely rocks out,,,
It allows me to channel my inner James Bond. :D

Fun, reliable .22s?

Hmmm...

Long guns:

Remington Targetmaster
Ruger 10/22
Marlin 925
Ruger SR-22
S&W M&P 15-22

Handguns:

Ruger Single Six
Browning Buckmark
Ruger 22/45

Mmm, Marlin model 60, Ruger MkII GM, Smith Model 18, Charter Pathfinder, Beretta 21A, Nylon 66, Beretta 101...

So many choices, I can't go wrong.

I never had much use for the EBR ‘tacticool’ .22’s until I realized that the adjustable butt stock would allow it to be used by all members of a family, the big burly guys (like myself) the little kids, the petite gals etc. I’ve been eying the Remington 597 for a while now as well as the HK416 .22 clone.

It’s getting to be like Will Rogers said, ‘I never met a gun I didn’t like.” Who knows, I might even look into Hi-Points!

I have conversion barrels for my Glocks and the Sig P220.

If I'm feeling lazy, I'll just bring my Walther P22.

I'm getting my Sig 522 this week. I cannot wait for it. I grabbed it with an Eotech 512 and 3x magnifier.

The most fun and best little .22 rifle I have or ever experienced is the Browning semi-auto .22. I have two of them, and they are just fun to shoot and great rifles.

After finding out how pleasant my 10/22 and 22/45 are to shoot with suppressor on, I haven't been shooting my centerfires half as much as I used to.
