Fun project: Bug-a-salt

My wife and I are getting sick and tired of the flies hanging around in our back yard, so I decided to get the latest "firearm" in fly hunting: the Bug-a-salt! Haha
I don't plan on just stopping there though. Going though my old parts bin, I have a pic rail barrel clamp and an old Magpul pic rail segment. I plan on putting the barrel clamp on for a cheap laser and then epoxying the rail segment on the top of the Bug-a-salt for attaching an old cheap red dot I have laying around.
To further the fun project joke, I'm taking an old Pmag, removing the spring and follower and gluing the base plate in place to use it as a "salt magazine"...you know...for those quick reloads.

Seriously though, I'm looking forward to using it to destroy a ton of flies. They've declared war and I intend on winning.

I just hope eastern seaboard cities don't requrie you to register your gun.

You need an attack spider. Jed Clampett shot flies off the front gate with a muzzle loader. snicker.
A ton of dead flies will attract more flies.

One of the helpful bits of information you get from reading the reviews on amazon is that coarse kosher salt gives you more range and lethality.

Ok, here's the pic of it. The barrel laser is really the best way to aim this thing. The "iron sights" it has built in works, but not super well. The red dot is really just for the looks. Between it being so high above the barrel and you're shooting at distances like 3 feet or less, one step fwd or back from your zero is way off target.

Good to know! I've only used basic iodized salt so far and it kills most flies, but just stuns some others. I'm going to try the bigger stuff next. "Fly Buckshot"

I have one but I always wished for something a little more powerful. Gotta get pretty close to actually kill them. Maybe something capable of killing wasps from a distance also.

I envision some type of smooth bore CO2 muzzle loader where coarse salt can be loaded.

I won't lie, I agree with this...until I tried the suggestion to use kosher salt last night. Made a big difference. Also, there's another version of this gun called the "Lawn and Garden" version. It's green and yellow instead of black and yellow. It's supposed to be able to kill bigger bugs and harder shelled bugs. I wish I bought that one instead. But, I'm still happy with this one now that I'm using kosher salt (aka bug buck shot)
