Fun day at the range

Went to an outdoor range yesterday with my new rifles, an Alexander Arms Entry rifle in 6.5 Grendel, a M&P 15 Sport, a M1 Garand, a M1A, a DPMS 308 AP4 16" carbine, and Mosin-Nagant.

No malfunctions of any kind with any of the rifles. The M&P Sport is very accurate, as the 6.5 Grendel. The Garand surprised me with both its accuracy and ease of shooting. The AP was also very accurate. The Mosin-Nagant displayed acceptable accuracy at 100 yds, and had the most recoil of any of the rifles. The M1A with synthetic stock and rubber recoil pad was soft-shooting, but I could not get it to group at 100 yds, so that will be a project for another day.

I am surprised by your comment about the M1A. Were you shooting iron sights? If so, have you checked to see if the locking screw on the left is adequately tightened? It might be the right side, I'm at work and my brain is tired...

I am surprised about the M1A comment also. I have been shooting mine a lot and have been using German DAG ammo and irons. I am getting where I can see the arc of the bullet through the sight picture. Not everytime but more than just now or then. The 300 yard gong is no problem. The 6 inch popper is a little harder.

I was surprised at the M1A's poor showing as well, but I'm not too concerned, because we were shooting it last, at the 100 yd line, and were in kind of a hurry because it was going to start raining any minute, so we didn't take the time to work with it properly. We should have started at the 25 yd line and worked up. I'll take it out again in a couple of weeks and have another go at it. I'm not blaming the rifle at all.

cmdc,

M1As live lovely lives in Arizona. . .where I live. You may have one of the rare ones that will not thrive in inclement weather and you might want to consider having someone ( me ) adopt your rifle. There is room in my safe for one more. . .:D

Funny. If she doesn't start behaving I might have to do that. I'm sure she'll see the error of her ways next trip to the range, though. But thanks for the offer.
