Full hardball loads in alloy kimber

Am I wrong that a steady diet of 230 g HB is hard on an alloy, or any, frame? I know someone who insists the gun is made for that load but I can't believe the frame is still in one piece.

Hello Richrd1, Were it mine, I would not hesitate to shoot any major U.S. manufacturer ammo through it. I don't consider my alloy framed guns to be as robust as my steel framed guns, and I did have the frame of one of my alloy guns crack. That being said, Bill D. is correct, 230 grain ball is standard for pistols chambered in .45 ACP.....

Hardball is probably the lightest .45 load you'll find, with velocities often in the 830fps range, when even non-+P 230gr JHPs are going 900fps or thereabouts (for 5" barrels; expect about 50-60fps less for a shorty).

230 Hardball is my practice load AND carry load in my Colt LW Commander.

S&B, Geco, WW, Rem, Federal, I shoot them all. All are accurate enough and reliable. Some run a little dirtier than others but I'm going to clean my pistols regardless.

If I was a LEO I would probably be issued JHP in .45 but as a civie I'm going to roll the dice with ball in my .45s.

When I CCW a 9MM, it's loaded with 115 JHPs.

Its not mine, but if it was I'd feed it cast or 185 jhp. Never been a fan of hardball
Even in the old NRA target matches that require it.. His kimber is no fun to shoot with HB compared to my colt gold cup and 185 s.
