FT Worth Texas attempting to ban Gun Shows!

I just got thru watching a very disturbing news report on my local news broadcast.
WFAA Dallas/Ft Worth TX  (A TV station known to present anti-gun side of issues) reported that the city of Ft Worth Tx is planning on getting together next month to discuss banning gun shows from the city.
A city official stated that (or assumed) that people that go into gun shows and buy a number of guns then go out after the show and sell them on the streets. They did interview someone from the gun show giving his opinion on the issue. The city is planning on addressing the issue next month and we (those who live in the area) need to go show our support for the gun shows in Ft Worth. Who is to say that, if they pass this in Ft Worth, this same thing won't happen in our own cities. Let's show them what we think of this ignorant thinking. If you live in Ft Worth, call your city officials and let them know what you think. This type of ignorance needs to be addressed.
If anyone finds out when the city will discuss this, please post it here so that we can all show up and support the gun shows in Ft Worth.
Thanks
CW

So many guns......so little cash!!!

I can see this kind of thing happening in the PR of Kalifornia, but TEXAS? After two weeks in MI and Canada, this is not good news to return home to.
I'll be watching for updates on the where, when, whom to contact.

BTW, CW, plastic works good as cash! :D

Well, it was done in Austin. The city council restricted the use of city facilities used for gun shows about 3 years ago. Now they pretty much sit empty, except for a few arts and craft shows and job fairs. The city is losing money, but I guess the council thinks it's worth it :(
The way the show promoters got around that was to rent a privately owned building, formerly the Best Products on Hwy 290, for shows on the 3rd weekend of every month.

Yep- more Stinkocrat nonsense at work! When CW called me about this tonight, needless to say, I was LIVID! Living right next door to FW, it's exp. scary for me, as the other cities in DFW could follow suit!

We definitely need to go to the FW City Council meeting to show them what we think of this invasion! I could say more, but I'm pretty tired so will leave it at that for now.

TMoney- too right! My plastic has melted in the past from buying guns :D but it's worth it. Hmmm, that pre-ban AR is looking perty good!

Christina, post the email addys and contacts for all of the city officials that will be responsible for making this decision.

Make it easy for the rest of us TFLer's to help out.

Doesn't matter if we're not from Ft. Worth either, a deluge of mail is a deluge of mail...

I am with CMOS. I live in Frisco but I have friends in FW and come over there and go to shows with them several times a year. Post the infor and we will let them have it.

I was at the gun show at the Amon Carter exhibit hall last Saturday, and a pro-gunshow councilman was there with a WFAA photographer. I'm curious if the news report showed this councilman's side of the issue.

You'd think that Fort Worth, Texas, where the West begins, would be the last place that would want to ban gunshows.

The question is under what authority do they intend to ban a perfectly legal activity? I was under the impression that there were preemption laws in TX that prohibit cities form enactung gun laws contrary to state law. Also kind of funnyo note that the counci members KNOW that people are buying guns and then reselling them on the streets. My question is if they know, then why the hell have they not arrested the criminals doing it?? Oh wait that makes too damn much sense. If thay actually did their jobs correctly they couldnt propogate their little empires. Same thing happened in Austin. Feel good city council banned shows on city property. The thing backfired on them pretty fast though. As stated before the organizers found a private building to have the shows at. Now instead of having a show every blue moon, we have one every month. And the city sees none of the $$. IDIOTS.

They tried this in Houston at the George R. Brown Convention Center last year. Todd Bean, a gun show promoter, sued them in federal court on the grounds that it was a violation of his constitutional right of free speach, expression, and lawful assembly, all first amendment issues. He won and gun shows are still held there. He also received a judgement in excess of $300,000 which, I believe, Houston is appealling. I hope Ft Worth has a little extra cash sitting around. The legal fees amounted to $70,000. It was not done in Austin because the city owned facilities are crap and the Best building is a much better location.

OK. sorry, here is the easiest way I can tell you to do it. The list is long and it would take me forever to type it all out so here is the web page for the city of Ft Worth's city council. http://www.fortworthgov.org/citycouncil/index.htm
I hope it works.
Give 'em the heat!!!!!! ;) ;)

The mayor of FT Worth promised that to the crowd at the MMM march there. I posted that here but no one else had seen the same newscast. I have been expecting this to happen in Dallas for years. You can buy guns but no ammo at the shows at The Convention Center in downtown Dallas. The shows at Market Hall sell ammo because its a privately owned venue. I'll send a letter to Ft Worth but I dont go there anymore. Seems there was this little incident at Billy Bob's back in the 80's that I'm not sure the statute of limitations has run out yet........... :D  :p
