Frugality Can Be Hazardous to Your Health

I went to the range this afternoon with a close friend. He prides himself on being frugal. He told me he had gotten a good deal on Federal 135 grs Hydra-Shok and Federal Classic 115 grs Hi-Shok JHPs. He said he carried the Hydra-Shoks in his Glock 19 and the Hi-Shoks in a back up mag. I asked him if he'd test fired them and he answered that I was nuts. "They're too expensive to waste on paper," he said. "Plus Glocks will feed everything," he continued. I told him he was a fool and to my surprise he bet me $20 both mags would work fine. So I went along with him. "Money in the bank," he was saying as he aimed his Glock at the targets we'd set up. Two shots fed well and the third jammed! The round got caught between the magazine and the feed ramp. We had to pry the magazine out. He tried again, one fed fine and the second jammed the same way. He then tried the Hi-Shok and the first six rounds fed fine but then the pistol jammed again in exactly the way. "It's the ammo,” he said. I stuffed the "faulty" rounds into a P228 and they fed like nothing doing. The rest of the afternoon he shot Blazer and Winchester FMJs through his Glock without a hitch. I was happy that I had won $20 and more importantly that my buddy's pistol jammed at the range and not in an emergency situation. Please, no matter how reliable your pistol has been with other ammo, invest in trying out your carry loads. Frugality can be hazardous to your health.

So many pistols, so little money.

A funeral costs a lot more than $20.
I'd say you both made out well. You made some cash, and he learned a valuable lesson.
Good point, Tecolote.
