Dear Frontlander,

I read your post about having a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag.
I was very interested in this arm when I first read about
it. Is it as nice a little gem as it think it would be?
I prefer smaller/short fast handeling/non-heavy arms.
This gun having only a 16" barrel and an short OAL,and holding eight rounds of 44 mag, me thinks I want one!
Will this rifle shoot 44 special as well? This sounds like it would be a nice little truck gun!,and a great brush deer gun. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.

Hardball. Cute and quick is the best way to describe the 1894P. It is so light and handy that it is easy to forget you are packing 9 rounds of .44 magnum. And the best part is that velocity of factory 240 gr. JHP is boosted to over 1600 fps. Yes it is compatible with .44 special. You gain a round in ammo capacity. The lever throw on the 1894 action is so short and quick. If you are used to a Model 94 Win. you will be amazed at the quickness. Accuracy is good. My last groups were 1.5" 50 yds. but that was with the crappy buckhorn sights. Did I mention that the gun is already drilled and tapped for not only a scope but a receiver sight also? I plan on putting a peep on it as soon as possible. Most likely an Ashley. I have one on my 1895ss .45-70 and it is a great sight. The only drawback to the gun is the porting. It makes the gun louder than normal. This is no biggy if you wear your earplugs. I could do without it. The .44 mag in a carbine doesn't kick enough to justify porting. I think it was just a marketing gimmick to cash in on the Guide Gun frenzy. I'm looking now for Marlin to release a 16" barrel, straight grip stock .30-30. Stainless steel would be almost too good to be true.

Dear Frontlander,

Thanks for answering my posting so quickly. The 44 Mag sounds like a winner! However,I agree with you that if MARLIN came out with a 16" barrel , "Trapper" style .30-.30 , I'ed be first in line to buy one. How bout in stainless. I have a buddy in TN that has a "Trapper" in .45LC and I just wanted something like it.
What a compact, short range rifle. This guy is an incredible shot with it,but because of Marlins reputation,I keep holding out hope that Marlin will make there version of the 16" Trapper! Then again, 8 shots of .44Mag or 9 of .44 special in such a lite, small rifle is something to really think about. It's gonna be more acurate than a handgun and not too much bigger! (lol) Thanks again,
