Front sight paint

Recently saw a youtube of a guy tweaking his Glock 26 and he put nail polish on the front sight for quicker daytime target acquisition. I'm wondering if that will harm the tenifer finish and if it's more widely practiced than I'm aware of. I believe it was orange.

Nail polish, model paint or sight paint will all work and should not harm the finish on the Glock. It's a fairly common practice.

I've used orange nail polish on the front sights of my carry gun for years. Never hurt the finish. It comes off with acetone. Easy to put on easy to take off.

I used nitesiters on a Taurus .38 and it works great. Nice folks there, too .. inexpensive way to make your sights easier to see.

I discovered 'fluorescent' spray paint has the brightest color I've tried, and that includes the Testors model paint and dedicated sight stuff.

Spray some in a cup and carefully dab some on the sight with a toothpick. I've found most paints shrink, so you may have to apply a second time.

Oh, you can get the micro can size of the stuff at most store's hardware section.

Be aware that any of the BRIGHT or fluorescent colors will glare badly in direct sunlight. If the sun is to your right most folks will place their shot to the right and vice versa. They are extremely useful in a dark environment. The best compromise I have found is to place a small yellow dot on the center of the front sight with a toothpick. It will allow you to "find" the front sight in low light without glaring badly in daylight. Experiment to see what works best for you. I read an article years ago where they tested various colors to see which became less visible as the available light was reduced and they found the yellow or lime green was the last one to fade out. This is why many fire engines today are changing from the traditional red to the yellow colors some departments use. Look at the emergency crash trucks at the airport next time you are there.

Regardless of fading, the yellow or green is more visible than the red. Degrease the front sight fully with alcohol or something, then maybe put down a base of white paint below the color you want to apply.

Cheap and easy...

I put a dab of liquid paper on the front sight blade and it shows up really well. I notice that I shoot better when I use it because it improves my sight picture. Comes off easy when cleaning, but it goes back on real easily, too.

If you use gloss white paint or nail polish first as a base, the fluorescent paints will be brighter.

Me, I just put real night sights on if they arent already there. Its a lot less messy. :)
