Front sight for Gp-100 Fixed sight model

Hi all,

Still enjoying the GP-100 after 1000+ rounds. The range I use is outdoor and sometimes glare makes it a little difficult to see the front sight post. I was looking for a replacement with a red insert or something but can only find ones for the adj. sight models. Anything out there for the fixed sight Rugers? Of course I could try paint but I want it to look professional. Also, forgive my ignorance, how does one remove the front sight?

Thanks.

Several alternatives:

(1) Could have a custom dovetailed front sight installed on the gun with a gold bead patridge.

(2) Could have an Express Sights Big or Std Dot installed. While most choose the one with the tritium sight insert for night they DO make them WITHOUT the insert with either the Big Dot or Std Dot which covers a lot less of the target.

(3) if there is enough height to cut a dovetail for an insert on the existing sight the gunsmith could put an insert in a color such as bright orange that picks up better for you. Generally, red is the worst color for the eyes to see easily.

(4) Magnaport ( http://www.magnaport.com/misc.html ) offers a C-more sight. It comes in several colors of translucent plastic that should pick up easily. It could be filed down to correct height for the loads you are shooting.

The current sight is retained by a roll pin that goes crosswise through the barrel and sight base. To remove without mangling Brownell's offers roll pin punches in various sizes one of which fits the roll pin.

I recently installed a red front sight on my GP100. My rear sight is adjustable but this may not mean your front sight cannot be replaced.

Check the front of the barrel. On mine there is a spring loaded plunger which when depressed with a small punch allows the front sight to be removed. If you Ruger has the same you are in luck.

The sight I have installed is:

GP100 front sight

i ordered the red front sight from Ruger for about $15. Mine came out by loosening the set screw in front of the sight.

Thanks for the replies. I almost had ordered that sight but later read it is not compatible with the fixed sight models. I think for now I'll try a little orange nail polish since it can be removed if it looks terrible. It doesn't bother me enough to mess around with gunsmithing, not to mention I don't think there is one on Guam. Thanks for all the advice.
