Many years ago when I was an aspiring photographer, I spent countless hours dreaming about "this new camera" or "that new lense" or "(Fill in the blank)". It was almost an obsession. I talked to all the other budding photographers and they just loved to trade stories on which "lastest, greatest thing they had gotten for their cameras."
Then something strange happened. As I progressed from a neophyte photographer into a successful, veteran photographer, the hardware just didn't seem to matter much anymore. Now don't get me wrong, I made sure I had good equipment, but the brand, focal length, etc. didn't really matter as much. What DID matter what what was in my head and how my eye saw colors and faces, etc. And yes, I did maintain my equipment well and made sure I had a backup at all times. That was just common sense. Same way with guns.
I know this seems rambling, but I am new to TFL and I thought maybe the "Glock vs. The Rest of The World" conversations were past history. I like a nice pistol/revolver as well as the next person, but it just seems like their are topics that warrant more effort (like getting the Democrats out of the White House).
I have done with my handguns as I did with my cameras. Whatever I had, I set out to become as good as I could be with it. You see, a camera at a wedding has to be just as reliable as a pistol at a gunfight. If the first fails, you are sued. If the latter fails, you are dead. Both must be reliable, but, in the end, it is the PERSON holding the camera/gun that rules the day!
BTW, I enjoy these forums and the obvious expertise that is in attendance.
