Proud Mom wants to share some stuff :D My daughter wanted one of those super soaker waterguns for Easter, so I got her one. But a few days before Easter I decided to have another little talk about guns with her (we do that often so she doesn't forget). I said to her "Now waterguns are not real guns, they are for play, real guns are not for play.." Before I could finish she says "Ya Ma I know! I promise never to touch real guns and if my friends have any I will tell their Mommy or Daddy." Of course Mom has a big grin on her face :D I told her that real guns are for adults and we have them to protect ourselves from bad guys in case they should break in the house. She says to me very serious with her eyes rolled "Well why don't you go get one then so you can 'protected' us from bad guys" :D Even a 5 year old can understand that we need to be protected from bad guys.

Also, on Easter we were at my Aunts house (who has 3 younger boys), my daughter came flying up the stairs and whispers in my ear "Mommy there are guns downstairs I don't want to touch them but the other Samantha is playing with them". I went downstairs to find a toy box filled with toy guns, but they did look real. I gave her a big hug and told her she did the right thing. I told her they were only toys but she did good in telling me anyway seeing that she wasn't sure. She also got an extra chocolate bunny for that one. :D

Easter morning when she got her watergun I went to take a picture and before I snapped it she said "Take me on bad guys" LMAO so here is the pic, I thought I would share it because its funny. The look on her face has me rolling, look out younger generation of bad guys :D

Sandy, you'd do well to get that AR with a quickness... you're gonna have to guard Sammi night and day to keep the ravening hordes of testosterone-crazed boys away from her! :D

Great job on educating her. That's one kid who's not gonna go shoot up a zoo. ;)

Sandy, it sounds like you are doing a fine job teaching your daughter about guns, and probably about other things as well. Keep up the good work!

Cute! Now get some little cammies for her, and take that pic again. Then email it to HCI!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!

Way to go, Sandy. Whoda thunk when you first came here things woulda gone this well.

Miss D,

You're one heckuva mom and your kid is terrific! She gave great answers and your pride in her is justified.

I don't think you're going to have to worry about protecting her from boys. A little martial arts training and a little gun-fu, and she's going to kick-butt on her own.

YES!! WAY TO GO!!! All Riiiight!
I'd suggest starting her on a chipmunk 22,
then working up gradually to a Maadi-
Griffin 50 bmg. crankshaft

What a smart, cute kid! You done good raising her, MissD!

I got my eldest son a toy shotgun from Cabelas (Really cool, it had reloadable cartridges that took caps) some time back. When he was about 6 years old, he went out to the pasture to play with it. Unbeknownst to him, I was watching him. When he got to the gate, he UNLOADED the toy gun, pocketed the cartridges, slid it under the fence, and THEN climbed over.

I was mighty proud of him, and I still am. I started teaching him gun safety at age 2.

Keep up the good job, MissD!

Excellent job, Sandy! You have instilled responsibility and built trust at just the right age.

I know all about testosterone-crazed boys; my daughter is 20. It always helps to show 'em my gun and a few of my shooting trophies. ;)

Thanks! :) Just so you know, she usually smiles pretty for pictures, this is her 'tough guy' look which makes it even more hilarious (to me). I'm glad she knows the basic rules about firearms but the teaching will not stop there. I always talk to her at least once a week about them, just to make sure she hasn't forgotten what I have told her. She has a real interest in guns I'm not sure if that is good or bad, I guess all I can do is make sure she learns the right way. I have confidence that she would never touch a gun on her own and understands that guns are not for kids. When she is a little bigger I'll take her somewhere so she can try a .22 out, maybe even sign her up for some kind of kid class. I'll save this picture so I can compare it when she is older and she takes the same pic with an AR :)

As for the ravening hordes of testosterone-crazed boys  did you all really HAVE to bring that up? ;) She already knows we DON'T have a phone number and boys are trouble :D (nothing personal to those that have boys) The boy that wants to take her out has a long series of tests to pass first and as he is filling that out, I will be cleaning a gun because it was so dirty from the last boy that took her out and brought her home 5 min late :D. Now I know why my Dad took up jogging, and happened to jog in the areas I hung out :).

Kent....that story is adorable! I can only imagine how proud you were! I think if you teach kids early enough safety becomes natural to them and that's the way it should be. High five to the little guy! :)

Every time I hear her say the right answers it makes me wonder what a child that age would say if they are not taught about guns. I think even people that do not own guns should teach their kids more than 'guns are baaaaaadd stay away from them', after all a child does learn from example not dictatorship. They should have that Eagle Eddie come into all classrooms just like they have that McGruff guy teach about crime. The older ones need to learn that those Columbine kids are not 'outcast hereos' they are nothing but murderers. Kids are like a structure, if you don't have a strong foundation eventually it will crack and collapse.
