Freedom Arms

I have made a new friend, he is a older gentleman that lives a few houses over. We meet at my fire dept fundraiser and began talking about firearms. Long story short he is like a firearm encyclopedia and loves reloading, also turns out his passion is expensive handguns. He is bringing his freedom arms 454 casull to my private range this weekend just so I can light the fuse on it. Anyway anything I need to know or be careful with concerning this beast of a handgun? It has a leupold scope on it and I have never fired a handgun with a scope.

P.s he made me and my brother 45 colt keychains and fudge. He said it was for volunteering in our community, I'm going to get him a gift card from gander mtn or something

Keep both eyes open, and both hands closed.:) The 454 has 50% more energy than a 44 mag. And a little more than 50% more felt recoil.

Allow the gun to lift your forearms at the elbow not your wrist, it will help make it less painful.

If you have thin leather or shooting gloves that helps as well.

The freedom arms 454 is shaped to help your body with recoil. Ask his advice on proper hand placement.

Relax and enjoy the moment several times. More than 20 makes me get flinchy.

Have fun! For me the recoil was almost addictive. Like all addictions this one is expensive.:D

Ask him if it ok to start with a few warm 45lc loads followed buy some 45+P or down loaded 454's before stepping up to the full house 454 loads . Even those bad boy freedom arms revolvers needs to roll in the hand so don't hold tight it like its da/sa revolver and don't lock your elbows.

Watch this video . Note the guys are haveing lots of revolver roll but no real push back. Enjoy it. You may deside you have to have one too.

Yeah........... Hang on tight. It operates @ 50,000+psi and has a quick recoil impulse. Of course the added weight of the scope will mitigate some of that, but I'm willing to bet you won't make it through a full cylinder without a break.
