For the cost of a postage stamp, you can get two free 5-rd mini-14 factory mags mailed to you directly from Ruger.
All you have to do is write a short letter to:
Sturm, Ruger, & Companiy, Inc.
Attn: Stephen L. Sanetti
Lacey Place
Southport, Connecticut 06490
and tell him that the 1994 magazine ban allows Ruger to make up magazines with a capacity of 10, and you'd really like 10-rd mags because it makes shooting tin cans much more enjoyable. (Ruger currently only makes 5-rd mags for the mini-14).
Assuming you don't have bad karma, Mr. Sanetti will send you a letter saying that "sorry, blah, blah, blah". And he'll enclose two 5-rd mini-14 mags with that letter. Score!
This has worked for myself and several friends.
Yes, I know we'd all really prefer to have 30-rd mags, but hey, at least these mags are free. BTW, they list for $17.95 each.
----
Normally I'd hate to "take advantage" of firearms companies. They have their hands full with the media and Klinton Krowd, and need to make a profit just like any other honest business.
BUT in this case I make an exception, because Mr. Ruger is the main person responsible for the infamous 10-rd magazine limit in the first place!
Before you leap in and correct me..., please check out the well-documented report on this, at: http://communities.prodigy.net/sportsrec/gz-papabill.html
FYI, this Stephen Sanetti guy is the "Special Advisor to the President" of Ruger.
Have fun!
