Free ammo range report.

Having received my free ammo from Triton earlier this week I had the time yesterday to try it out at the range. Triton sent me a box of .45 ACP 230gr JHP +P (TR45HVC) lot#01702228. I have never been a big fan of +P ammo in the .45. Most of the time the benefits of a little higher velocity are not worth the recoil and muzzle blast it comes with. This ammo may be the exception. I found this ammo to be very accurate with a group size of 2.175in at 20yds with four shots. The first shot was off from the main group making it all most four inches, but the last four were point of aim so I did not count the first one. By the way the gun is a Colt GM M-1991 with a five inch barrel. Velocity was an average of 927fps with a high of 948fps and a low of 918fps. I think what surprised me the most was that the recoil was less then what I had expected and did not seem to be much more then standard ammo. The Hornady 200gr XTP +P I shot was noticeable sharper and I didn't care for it. I think I will have to buy some more and give it a good work out and see if I just found a new round to carry in my .45.

Snowdog, don't be ridiculous. A "chronograph" indeed. You can't just make up words.

You measure velocity by measuring the time between the bullet leaving your gun and hitting the target. Then you measure the distance and it's simple math!

A good buddy with a stopwatch and a string?:D

I'll try to get to the range myself this week and chrono some out of a 4" barrel 1911. I'll be happy with 875-900 fps with a 230gr bullet.

I did shoot some without a chrono and found the recoil to be very manageable. I couldn't tell much difference between it and S&B 230gr FMJ ammo. Muzzle flash was also extemely low in an indoor range, unlike PMC amm. That stuff really lights up the range.

I have always had good results with Triton ammo. Not as a high as velocity as corbon, but waaaaayyyy more reliable. I do not trust Cor-bon period, and I find it amazing that it is recommended as often as it is. Just my .02.
