Franchi I-12 stock takedown screwdriver

Hello everyone,

I now have in my possession a Franchi I-12 with a synthetic stock (model 40700), and I want to take apart the stock to change the shim

I am completely new to this, so I turned to my manual, which is not very detailed. I am supposed to use a phillips screwdriver (which I have many of) to unscrew the two screws under the recoil pad.

The problem is that I only see two tiny little holes in the recoil pad where I'm supposed to stick my phillips screwdriver through. Do I jam it through and wreck the recoil pad? Or is there some way that the recoil pad comes off? It would also help to know how I'm going to be using the torque wrench and hex spanner etc.

I have tried an extensive search online for any walkthroughs (text, picture, video) but have not been able to find any. All my searches only turn up discussions comparing this gun with others. If any of you have any information that could help please let me know. I would gladly read a walkthrough for another similar shotgun if that can help.

Use a thin, round shafted Phillips screwdriver and wet the shaft slightly to minimize damage. Insert it those two little holes and go from there.

Yep, used a #2 phillips screwdriver (just the regular one in my toolbox collection). I used a bit of gun oil like you suggested to get the screws out, and they popped out.

I then used the hex tube spanner with extension like they suggested and took apart the stock and changed the shims.

I didn't use the torque wrench putting it back together, and I hope that is otherwise okay.

Thanks again for your help.
