you got to be kidding me,recently picked up a mint poss. unfired S&W mod 37 circa 1983,love it,very accurate, pleanty powerful & mild to shoot, carries great in pocket, yesterday putt 150rds of mild 158swc reloads and 20rds fed pd's,stoped at gunsmith down the street and while shootin the brezze told him I wanted to bob the hammer on my mod.37 ,he showed me a few bob'd,smoothed and polished j-frame hammers he had and said he would install one on my gun for $20.00 (includding hammer) bring it by sunday...went home and cleaned her up and stopped by today, first thing he say's is I love the old style airweights, this looks new, about 20yrs old?, THEN he say's WOW have you been pounding it with +P'S? THE FRAME IS CRACKED,he then showed me in the yoke frame under the barrel what appear to be two 1/2 inch cracks. How could this happen? the stoutest loads i have put through it were the fed pd's?,He agreed the gun has been fired very little and is origional, the cracks were not there before and as said the loads i have put through it have been mild, frame must be defective..gonna call S&W mon. do you think they will back it or give me the run around?

They will probably bend over backwards to do what ever it takes to make you happy. They are really trying to ecourage you to like them again. You will probably not get a better chance. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I have never heard anything bad about S&W service, and after the awful sellout, anything bad would have been all over the Internet.
I am sure they will treat you right in spite of all the nasty things we have been saying about that evil deal with the devil.
They are like the ugliest girl at the dance, desparate to present a nice personality.

That be spooky, I have hammered a couple of 36s with no problem. One of em was used for testin defensive loads back in the 60s and it never whimpered.

Sam....just out playin with the skunk and lookin at the stars

Look at the bright side: There are less fortunate ways to become aware of such a serious defect.

I didn't have too many boxes through my new 44 Mag revolver when I discovered the cylinder was cracked. Interarms made good on the repairs, but I'm most thankful that I'm not typing with my toes right now.

Like AK9 said, they will probably bend over backwards. Had trouble with a sw99 I bought from them last Dec. The second time I sent the gun back I demanded they replace it. Shocked the heck out of me when they agreed and sent me a brand new gun. I'd also email their CEO and beef, that's one of the things I did.

I sent back a mod. 37 to %&* for work because I stripped one of the side panel screw housings. They had to drill and retap it. No charge.

This is NOT good news.

I just bought (on Saturday) a S&W Model 042 Airweight.

I shot it with some pretty hot, but not +P, loads on Saturday evening.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

I had the same thing happen to mine. I had a nickel model 38 that I bought new in the two priece gray box. I was a pinned barrel. There was a split in the frame under the forcing cone. Fortunately I had not even put 50 rounds through the gun when I took it to the gunsmith who found the problem. It was caused by the barrel being over torqued in the frame during assembly. Return it to S&W. They gave me a brand new gun no charge. They really have no choice because if they send it back to you, you will sell it to get your money back and to some poor unsuspecting soul who will shoot it and injure themselves will then sue S&W for a lot more than the money that a new model 37 would cost.

Dealer put it in the mail to S&W today,We'll see what they do I'll let you'al know...Jeff what you say makes sence,I believe this had to have happened at the factory, although its circa.1983 it was in brand new condition.
