Fox OC spray

Hi, all,

If there is anyone here who's actually used Fox OC spray against a BG, I'd appreciate your experiences.

Had to spray 3 teenagers.....

at the mall. Had my 3-year old with me and the "urban" youth decided that they wanted to ask me for money so they could go to the arcade....I said I couldn't help them ----they became nasty---lots of swearing....as I step up my pace to the car with my son in my weak arm. One makes the mistake of pulling on my sons coat hood to slow us down as the other 2 step in front of me.

I carry a 2 oz spray unit(5.3MM SHU) on a belt holster--just forward of my CCW. I pull the Fox and sweep the three of them and keep walking. From their screams of agony I assume the Fox did as promised - and then some. I called for local PD on my cell (mall Ninja showed up later) and explained the situation - backed up by many witnesses. The poor boys were still screaming on the ground 15 minutes later.

Good stuff if you ask me.
 
Fox 5.3 is our current issue O.C.

i have used it exclusively for the past 2 years... have sprayed a couple dozen with it to date...

it is bar none the best O.C. aerosol weapon i have ever used..

I got mine at selfdefenseproducts as well. I get them for friends and family as stocking stuffers. :)

If you buy some, make sure to get an inert training cannister and some sudecon wipes with it.

I'm interested in getting some as well. Is there a certain size you recommend that's small enough to carry discreetly and easily? What formula should I look for? What about stream versus fog? Thanks!
 
The keychain units are good, and the most concealable. However, I prefer to carry the 2oz (FX2) with a medium fog (easier to hit target) and keep a 4oz in the glove box and one mounted right next to the front door. You really can't have enough of these things. I've been test fired on, and it was holy hell.
 
Thanks. Is there a certain type of trigger mechanism you prefer? (I dunno if "trigger mechanism" is the right phrase but what's the best way to get it to start spraying quickly?)
 
I personally carry the 2oz Fox OC on a belt holster. I got my mom and my girlfriend the keychain version.

There are different "triggers" depending on the size.
1)The keychain version has a knob that needs to be centered before you can fire.
2)In the 2,3 and 4 oz versions you can get one with an open top or they now sell one with a flip top.
3) They sell larger verision which shoot out like a fire extinguisher.

Fog vs. stream vs. splatter stream

The keychain unit comes with a "spatter stream." IIRC, some of the other Fox sprays are available in fog.

I fired one of the inert simulators once. It shot out in droplets, about like a bottle of Windex that's nearing the end. looks to have a range of about 6 feet.

Here is my take on the basic differences:

Fog:
* Best effectiveness (inhalation, mucous membranes)
* Vulnerable to wind
* Contaminates indoor rooms

Stream:
* Effective
* Not as vulnerable to wind
* Doesn't contaminate as much

Spatter stream:
* Compromise: Somewhat less effective than fog but less vulnerable to wind and also doesn't contaminate indoor areas
 
FYI, re: the open top...

I had carried a Fox OC 2 oz. in my pocket for some time. I had my key chain in that pocket, too, and once bent over or squatted down to pick something up. Well, one of the keys jammed itself horizontally between my thigh and the OC activating button. I felt a stinging, cold sensation on my thigh and saw a small, pepper-colored stain appear on my pants. Obviously the key had jammed itself down on the OC button and I had sprayed myself! The pants were ruined (even after a wash), I had to clean my leg (it was cold from the propellant?) and -- even though only a small amount of OC was sprayed, and it was completely absorped by the material -- there was a slight stinging in my eyes and shortness of breath.

I still carry and would carry Fox OC. IMHO, don't carry anything else in that pocket. Or, get the new flip top. I got holsters with both of my 2 ozs, BTW. Have never used them. I just carry in a pants or coat pocket. It's quicker and more discreet.
 
Thats kinda what happened to me...I have one of the twist-top models, and apparently it twisted from SAFE to FIRE in my pocket. I leaned over to pick something up and heard a *swoosh* sound. I thought that was kinda funny, then noticed a wetness in my pants pocket, a rapidly expanding circle of brown, and a sudden heartfelt thankfullness that the cannister had been pointing outward, and not inward :eek:

FWIW, the pants were not a write-off. I laundered them twice, w/o anything else in with them, and they're good to go.
