I've heard of this Savage accessory but can't find one.
I'm teacing the grand kids to shoot and have a 24C 22/20ga.
The 20ga recoil is a little rough for the 6yr old and I was told that there is a 20ga to 410 ga adapter from SAvage that will work.
NOW!! w
here can I get one and how much$$ are involved, Many trhanks Jim:) just email .... jitcnorwood@yahoo.ca Oh yeah I'm a Canuck too!

Before I purchased my first .410-bore O/U, back in the early 1970's, I used two of the Savage units in my 12-ga O/U Skeet gun. To get them to work properly, I had to disable the O/U's ejectors. After that, I'd frequently get a .410 rim stuck under the little extractor of the Four-tenner -- it was quite a bother to get them un-stuck. Needless to say, the patterns weren't up to those from a full length .410 barrel. I had fun with them but never shot a 25-straight and only a few 24's.

IIRC, the price was about $20.00 each back around 1970. I can't see spending $95 for one unless you're a collector. If I was looking to convert from 20 to .410 I'd contact the folks at Briley and get a tube that really works instead of the Savage toy.

In reality, it would probably be cheaper to get a simple single shot, exposed hammer, break-open .410-bore. I've got an old one in my closet, my neighbor has one just like it in his closet -- there must be many of them out there -- the whole gun is probably worth less than the cost of a tube.

You can buy 20ga to .410 reducers from www.gaugemate.com, they are stainless steel shell reducers that allow you to shoot .410 from a 20 gauge as well as other gauges and calibers combinations. Nice accessory to throw in the pack.

I see a lot of four tenners on gun broker and ebay and they go for rediculas prices, you can often buy a Savage 940 or a Stevens 947 .410 single shot shotgun for the price that four tenners go for. They often get bidded up to $125.

I have in the past 5 weeks bought 7 various Savage and Stevens .410 single shot shotguns in very good condition and I did not pay more than $100 for them each. Many of them are C&R and shipped right to me.

Orvis, the flyfishing company also makes or did make a set of reducers. They are made out of aluminum with a steel insert. They usually go for about $35 a pair. You may be able to call Orvis and see if they have them in stock.

Cabelas and Gander also have shot shell reducers in their brand names.

I keep an eye out for these and on occasion I will find a 12/410 but to date in my travels have not found a 20/410 version. These are somewhat desireable and harder to find. I do not know your budget but Seminole makes a product called Chambermates that will let you convert a 12 or 20 to a lesser gauge or calibre. I know a person that has a set to convert a 12 to 20/28/410 for sale currently. You can google Seminole chamber mates and find their products.

[I'm teacing the grand kids to shoot and have a 24C 22/20ga]

Option 1: Shoot .22 shot ammo in the .22 barrel. (dustshot)

Option 2: Take both a 3" 20ga shell and a 3" 410 shell to a friendly machinist, and have him turn a 3" aluminum 20ga blank, bored for the 410 shell.

My friend made me a set (2) in about 15mins one evening.

4-Tenners will bring a minimum of $75 on most any classifieds. I sold both of mine last year for $175.

Just to give an idea of the market.
