Four generations of Colt 1911

I came somewhat late to the 1911 platform and older Colts. When I turned 18 and had the right to buy guns, Hollywood action movies were all the rage (Lethal Weapon, Schwarzenegger, Die Hard etc..) so my early inclination was towards the pistols seen in those movies such as the Beretta 92 and the Desert Eagle.

My first 1911 was a Stainless Delta Elite on sale at the LGS, built 1991 but bought new in 2000, they were slow movers then, at least here in Switzerland. Only in 2013 did I develop a real interest and started buying more of them, reaching abt 15 today, mostly Colts.

But today I thought I’d post just 4 of them, all from a different generation :

1913 - 1911
1943 - 1911 A1
1970 - Government Model (commercial)
1977 - Government Model Mark IV / series’ 70

That’s it, that’s the post.

Very nice, a 1911, a 1911A1, and two Govt. Models.

Not "four generations of Colt 1911", technically....though four generations of Colt .45 would be accurate..;)

I dunno

Well I know the GM are not “1911” technically

But Colt .45 seemed a bit vague as a description

Those are Colt .45s too

When I bought my Colt Mark lV Series 70 Government model, it had a collet bushing and came with sandblasted walnut grips, not checkered grips.

Were checkered grips an option or were the sandblasted grips swapped-out for checkered on your gun?

Those grips I suppose

I think either the sandblasted or the checkered one could be found in that time period, probably depending on grip supplier and stock available at Colt.

I believe mine are original to the gun, although I didn’t buy it new so you never really know.

A bit vague I'll agree. Still accurate though. I should have been more precise, and said ".Colt .45acp autos"...or something like that.:D
