Found on usenet, basic good advice on safety

That's a very well-written article. Plus, it's not really "in-your-face," which is good. Sometimes when people discuss self-defense, they get a little carried away, which can easily turn the listener/reader off.

quote:
It seems to me that a woman who has herself broached the subject of getting herself a gun has probably already answered her internal questions about her willingness to use it.
Sure, ask, "If you reasonably believe you are in immediate danger of death or serious bodily injury, are you going to be able to bring yourself to shoot the guy?" [/quote]
Personally, I'd tend to disagree with the suggestion to go ahead and ask if she's capable of using a gun against an attacker. The first sentence pretty much answers that question.
Someone (a very cheauvansitic someone, that is) asked me that once. I was very insulted. I asked him, "Why? Are you? Just because you're a man, do you think you're more willing to protect yourself?"
I suppose in general, women are less willing to protect themselves, but if someone decides to buy a gun, I think she has already asked herself that very question, so my suggestion is, "don't ask."(not a criticism of the article, though, just a rant about the two people who have asked me that and it REEEEEEEAAAALLLY PO'ed me! )
