I was in a gun shop the other day and saw a 2 1/2 " python in polished stainless with large finger grove grips. Very nice, however it had a 1350.00 price tag. Are they really worth all that. I guess what bothered me the most is the fact that I have a 4" in my safe that I bought years ago for 250.00 and the dealer threw in a box of shells. I realize those days have come and gone, but I'm still suffering from sticker shock.

I hear you.

Man, it wouldn't be worth it to me . . . and I think that's warm for what I've been seeing them go for lately (c. $1k). But I'm hardly an expert on Python pricing nowadays, and the prospect of a neat photo of a 2.5" Python was enough to get me to click on your thread . . . so they do have some curb appeal. :)

The 2 1/2" SS models aren't that easy to come by. So being a scarce (I won't say are rare) model and if the box and goodies are present I would say that's not a great price, but not unheard of either if in like new condition, but I would check on those stocks. I haven't kept up with the newest models and options, but they don't sound original and that would detract from the premium price tag.
When you say years ago you must mean many years ago if you bought it new for $250.

$1,350 is unreasonable, but not altogether unusual.

I saw an auction several months ago for a pair of consecutively numbered 2.5-inch stainless Pythons with an opening bid price of $2,500.

Colt didn't make enough of those little hummers.

I always thought

the Python was a sexy revolver especially in polished stainless. I don't have one and never will I don't guess unless I can get someone to sell me one for what they are worth....which in my opinion is no more than a good Smith or Ruger of similar frame size....thats Colts problem they have always priced themselves out of the market in my lifetime anyway.

I would'nt pay that premium either so I picked up a re-blued one that I stumbled across. It's not a collectors item, it does't sit in a drawer or behind glass but go's straight to the range with me. The right Smith@Wesson 686 or Ruger GP100 is just as good and i'm betting I'll pick one or the other up eventually but I still love my Python. I can't tell you how uncertain I was about purchasing a used one for 700$ but it really is smooth and it's now my favorite of the bunch.
