Form 1 50 caliber silencer

A co-worker who taught me how to make silencers recently finished his 50 BMG can. He waited almost a year for the paper form 1 to be approved then wasted another year going back and forth deciding how to make the baffles. If he hadn't waited so long he might have a place to shoot it. Unfortunately for him the gun club he belongs to was shutdown by the county a week or two before he finished it. Sucks to be him.

This project nearly kicked his butt. He wasted 5 thread cutting inserts trying to get the rear end caps threads cut properly. He also got a tap stuck in his first attempt at an end cap and had to cut it off. On the plus side he finally set up a coolant system on his cheap hobby lathe so he wouldn't burn up a bit after 30 minutes of use.

We went out into the woods in a large clearing and setup a camcorder near a large berm so he could safely fire into it. The range was only 20 feet or so.

Now all he has to do is buy a better 50 BMG rifle. His LAR is a 2 moa gun with Amax ammo; I keep telling him if he is going to smoke $2-5 per round, he should be doing it in a better gun.
