Forced to make a decision

This is the only two I am considering for concealed carry. There are MANY better guns out there but this is what I like. If YOU had to choose between the Springfield Armory stainless Champion and Glock 19, what would it be? Would you want to carry 8 .45s or 15 9mm rounds??

For CCW I would choose a Glock any day but not 9mm. Since you have already decided on these two guns and wow what a big difference I dont know what to tell you. I have nothing against Springfield but I thing for carry I would choose a DOA vs. Cocked and locked so that goes to the Glock. Personally I wouldnt trust my life with a 9mm so that goes to the Springfield. SO since we are talking about someones life here and it HAS to be one of these guns I say the Springfield since it is a .45. But if you are comfortable with a 9mm I think that the simplicity of the Glock would be more favorable in high stress situations. My vote goes with the caliber on this one and the .45

The reason I put a 19 in this was because of the minimum recoil and capacity. In a make belief situation where I would have to unload my mag, would 8rds of .45 do the job or would it take 15 of the 9mm? I know this sounds rediculous and is on both ends but that's my train of thought right now.

Since nobody has said it yet, I may as well be the first. The most important thing is Shot Placement. One center mass hit with .45 beats 5 leg shots with 9mm. Likewise one center mass hit with 9mm beats 5 leg shots with .45. Don't make your decision based on capacity. Even the Hi-Cap fanatics will admit that a good shooter with "only" 8 rounds of .45 is no one to mess with.

Forgot about placement. I've read many posts and arguments about it. Let's leave it at that. I guess I can feel at ease with a .45 caliber gun. The only thing I have to do is carry more mags and learn how to load and unload a gun in stressful situations.

OH yes shot placement. Chances are that you will only shoot at someone a couple maybe 3 0r 4 times before they run anyway (If you miss)You dont just want to unload a clip on someone because you are liable for those stray bullets. I only had to pull my gun on someone once when I lived in a CCW state and luckily I didnt have to pull the trigger. And if you buy new you will only get 10 rounds 9mm unless you can find pre ban clips. I would still take 8 of the .45 over 50 of the 9mm. OK not 50 but I would the 10 or even 15.

just wanted to say for ccw i would, all ways carry an extra mag you never know if you will have to reload. its better to have than not to have remember that!

Good luck

A Glock 19 loaded w/ quality ammo will get the job done. The new generation ammo is night and day better than the old stuff. Besides if shooting them in the body does't stop them, try the head. I think its called a failure drill. Anyone ever heard of these? I've only been trained to do this since I became a LEO. People get killed everyday w/ .380s and .25s, so a 9mm will get the job done. One thing I didnt know was that you aim for the leg w/ a 9mm and the center of the body w/ a .45. And as far as I am concerned anyone w/ a gun is a threat, not just because they have a big caliber. If you put the range time in you can rely on any quality weapon to get the job done regardless of the caliber.

Glock 19. Not sure if you want any more of an opinion than that. Go to the 1 day Glock armorers school and shoot their guns a lot and you learn to love them. If you are looking for more, try the 23C (comp'd .40 S&W from Glock) or the 30 (.45, but a little thicker than the 19). Either way you'll be fine. It comes down to personal preference.

Both are good, so buy the one you like/shoot best.

I carry a 9 or a 45 (normally. LOL!)

Buy the one you enjoy shooting more. If you like it better, you'll shoot it more often, and you'll probably shoot it better. I own guns in both, and I simply prefer the 1911 in .45 over any other handgun I've ever shot, so I carry it instead of the 9mm I bought for CC. I just feel more comfortable with a few big bullets over more little ones.

Teach a kid to shoot. It annoys the antis.

One, my point with that statement was not where you were aiming, but where the bulets are hitting. I agree that anyone proficient with a handgun is a threat, no matter what the caliber. By the same token, you should not decide on a particular weapon just based on its capacity. 10 or 15 bullets are no good if you can't hit your intended target.
