I like the idea of a very reliable, simple pistol, but I've never met a Glock I liked. I really wanted to like the G30 but it had the same problem as the others: the BrickGrip. Even the 36 is too big, considering what it's supposed to be (if it had a full-length grip, maybe...). So, leaving out the people who buy Glocks all the time (no votes for you!), would the Glock doubters out there buy:

A full-sized or compact (think 17 or 19, not subcompact) 9mm Glock with a single-stack magazine (8-10 rounds), a grip width like a 1911, and a shorter trigger reach?

I think these would fly off the shelves. I'd get one for about $499 and I don't even believe in polymer.

If it don't fit, don't buy it & stop forcing yourself into liking them. You're just gonna end up selling it to buy something you really like anyway!

There are many poly framed guns out there that you could get.:
SIG PRO
HK USP
STEYR M/S
CZ 100
CD DDA
Wilson KZ45

I can't even list them all... take your pick... There are PLENTY non-Glock options.

I agree. If it doesn't fit, you really won't be happy with it. The aforementioned pistols sound like a good place to start (especially if the USP is a compact model). Add a refurbished P7 in the works as well.

I shoot a Glock 17 the more I shoot it the less I like it. The grip is like gripping a 2 x 4 & I might not have propper trigger reach. I searching for a replacemnet. I found a Walther P99 Quick Action. I can get my pinky around to the left side of the grip. With the Glock my pinky rests on the front strap. So the Walthers grip seems narrower. The trigger reach seems better also. In the gun store this pistol seems to fit my hand like a glove. That 8# Quick Action DAO trigger feels good. The problem is I can't test fire 1. I'm not going to buy a pistol I've never test fired again.

I like Glocks a lot but I would say no way. I'm sure HKs are nice and everyone seems to like Sigs but there is no way I would waste my money.....I don't like them, never have and never will. Do like the Walthers a lot though, might have to waste a little on one someday.

Yes, absolutely ! Ideally I would want a 26/27 single stack but a Glock 19 single stack would suit me as well.

Kahr seems to be the only one close to this right now but they just don't do it for me. If Glock builds it they WILL come...and buy it, and shoot it, and be happy (I will !).

Don't waste your money.

I did! I picked up a new Glock 36, in .45 for a song. I shot it twice, then traded it off! The trigger is not for me. If your not a fan now, you won't be later. On your list I would go for the Wilson.

I am not fond of glock, but I like to have one it soon for collection or for the sake of owning one of its kind. I prefer the G17.

I have several friends who said to me before they don't like glock but now they have one and using it in IDPA competition. I am still loyal to my .45 1911.

How 'bout a SINGLE-STACK G26 or G27 ??

My favorite of the Glocks is the single-stack G36 in .45 ACP. Why on earth can't Glock produce a narrower (less than 1") single stack semi-auto in 9MM, .40 SW, etc?? I think they're missing a very big segment of the concealed carry market. Oh well, what do I know??

I think one of the problems with another single stacked Glock is lack of magazine compatibility with the other models (Can't have it all). I know there were a lot of detractors when the G36 came out because of this - don't know how it affected the company's viewpoint re: single stacks.

Personally, a single stack 9mm Glock would be awesome. Would you go for an overall sized G26/27 sized frame @ 7 shots or so or a 19/23 sized frame with 10?

Sounds like you want a SIG Sauer P225 with a short trigger.

The only "Combat Tupperware" ;) that I will consider buying is either a Springfield aka HS2000 XD-9/40 or an HK. Lay either one of them side by side to a glock or SW/Walther p-99 and you can see the better design features. Now if it only had a 1911/P-35 thumb safty and ambi slide release it might be the best handgun of the new age.

Cheers,

ts

Nope. Don't like the DA/SA thing. That also rules out most of the plasti-guns that others have mentioned.

Basically, I like most of the ideas inherent in the Glock (reliability, durability, one trigger pull length and weight, simplicity of parts) but not one Glock has a shape that works for me. If the 36 were a full-sized single-stack gun, that might work, but it's too big (and still too blocky) for its design.

The only plasti-gun that I'd buy right now is the USP Compact. I really like that gun, but it's really very different from a Glock.

My answer: P99. All that a Glock is, and a box 'o chocolates. :D I wouldn't buy a Glock with your money. Too many other fine alternatives out on the market to chose from now.

I'm just here spying for the Glock guys to see what ya'll say.:D

Almost...

I like the narrower grip idea. I carry a 17 now (issued) and I can shoot it fairly well. But the grip is too dang wide. Nor am I a 9x19 afficianado.

Nor can I warm up to the feel of the trigger. Not the weight, the feel.

Having said all that, it is a fair issue gun. Buy in bulk and hand to the troops. But I wouldn't spend my onw money on it, and the grip's too wide for me and anyone with my size (or smaller) hands.
