? for new toys

I would like to know how many of you out there go out and buy a brand new gun and then in 24 hours have it in pieces. I just can't believe this, Gunslinger and I went out and bought him a brand new North American Arms Derringer 22LR-22mag yesterday and I just turned around to see what he was doing and all I see is the frame of this gun, so I just had to ask him what he did with his child when he was small and he bought him a brand new toy and his child tore it apart and all Gunslinger could say smilingis, you know it looks really good when I get done with it. I think from now on, we will just go to gunshows and buy parts instead of a whole gun and that way he won't have to waste his time tearing it down. LOL

Sounds like old Gunslinger just want's to make sure all the part's and piece's are there?

You're OK unless 'Slinger's got a piece or two left over after he's got the gun put back together... ;)

Sensop, you're trying real hard to put me on the bad behaviour list but all I am going to say to this comment is

quote:
I'm sure you can think of something he keeps tinkering with to figure out how IT works too! Heh, heh.
Hmmmm.......

Foxfire,
quote:
You're OK unless 'Slinger's got a piece or two left over after he's got the gun put back together...
I'm not going to comment on this at all. :)

Everthing is built nowdays with great speed and much less regard for good quality control.
By taking things apart you can do your own inspection.Rework some parts that have burrs and machine marks on them. This makes the weapon work to its peak effenciey. You allso can check for any safety problems that might have resulted from lack of QC in the manufactureing proccess.
Damm am I good or what!!

There are several reasons for this.
In a new gun you check contact surfaces, clearances, rough spots, burrs, etc.
In a used gun you do all the above plus give it a good cleaning.
Some people do it to see how the gun works.
Then you got folks like me who like to stir around in the inards just cause we like to. :)

:D I guess it's just one of those "men" things.
'Bout every one of mine was stripped within the first day, and come to think of it, the same thing seems to happen to a lot of stuff I buy, even cars! ;)

I like to play with any new acquisition for all the reasons above. Guns too. :)

Couple of points ;)
He seems to like the gift. Yes?
And to expound on Ala Dan's comment Gunslinger wants to be sure he knows where all the parts go
If it bothers you could get a bag of parts that are from more than one gun and let him figure it out :D

Your welcome in advance LOL

Taking the gun apart is the first thing I do for several reasons, including:

1) Making sure I can clean it and put it back together after I shoot it.

2) Making sure there's nothing inside that shouldn't be there, and that all the parts are undamaged and fit right.

3) Making sure I got what I paid for, new or used.

4) I'm in California, I've been waiting for the thing for ten days, reading the manual and surfing the internet to find out everything about the gun. Give it here so I can take it apart.

I always field strip, inspect, clean and lubricate my new acquisitions before taking them out for... um... a walk. :)

sensop and ledbetter covered my reasons for doing this quite well.

Also, for me, this is part of the (for lack of a better word) "bonding" process with a new firearm. It is my way of showing the weapon that I will take the time and effort to properly care for it. In return, the weapon will function reliably and accurately.

I know that may sound a little odd, but hey! It's always worked for me!

Guns have feelings, too. :)

Terri, Does that mean you did not strip down and clean the two new toys you got for your birthday? Or did Gunslinger do them for you?
You just have to do that to make sure everything is okie doke for the range time. :)
Gotta know for sure you got what you paid for.

Loknload...

Are you asking Terri if she "stripped down" before she cleaned the guns?! ;) Sounds like a personal question to me!

heehee! I couldn't resist! :D

Of course we wouldn't have to ask 'Slinger if he strips down before he cleans his guns...since we all know he wears nothin' but a dang hat! ;)

Alright, this could get personal you know, but I have to say no to both because thats what I got slinger for. LOL :) And he does well at both jobs, so as long as he continues I don't have to do it.

Well, I really didn't mean what you are refering to :o I usually pre-read my posts to make sure I'm covered  I missed this one :o But now that you mention it??? :D I really want to remain an innocent by-stander to this conversation ;)
But you know this could become an interesting concept in gun cleaning :D

Terri,
Might be a good idea to watch 'Slinger the next time he "inspects" your toys.
Someday you may have to do 'em yourself... ;)

have tape, will share...

FOXFIRE You know this is really hard for me to resist this comment, but I'm out on good behaviour and sure would hate to go back to lock up, so all I'm going to say is yes I should pay more attention, but I figure as long as I got "Slinger" he can play with my toys himself.
