For LnL users, what is your die setup for .45ACP?

For Hornady LNL AP users, for .45ACP. For each die used:

1) Name the die(s) used
2) State which position (#1-#5) each dies occupies.

GO!

I don't have an LNL, but I have Dillon progressives, and for any 5-position rotary progressive, the sequence is:

1.Size and decap and then Primer seating
2. Expanding and Charging
3. Powder check or lockout die
4. Bullet seating
5. Neck crimping

You can't do those things out of sequence without encountering a problem, so that really narrows you station options. There is an RCBS progressive that uses the first station for case lubing and is the only one I know of that adds to the sequence. If you don't use a powder check die, you do bullet feeding at 3. instead of at 4. with the right equipment adaptation.

Dillon dies are good progressive dies. The sizer is a little tighter than a standard set, which helps with R-P and other cases.

My .45 ACP dies are RCBS, in LNL bushings, of course.

Size/decap in Station 1;
Station 2 has the powder measure with a Hornady PTX to expand the case neck;
RCBS Lockout Die in Station 3;
Seat bullet in Station 4; and
RCBS taper crimp Die in Station 5.

Sorry for jumping in , I'm using a single stage but the dies used from 1 - 4 are 1- RCBS Size and decapping die 2- Lyman M expanding die 3- Hornady sleeved seating die 4- RCBS Carbide crimp die that I may change to the Lee Factory Carbide Crimp die , I ordered but haven't tried it out yet to remove the bell from the M die. Hope I didn't confuse things , just like talking gun stuff .

Not LnL, but RCBS with same number of stations:

1. Size/decap
2. Prime/charge/expand
3. Powder check lockout die
4. Bullet feeder
5. Seat/taper crimp combo

I have 4 Hornady Ammo-Plants, two set up for pistol and two set up for rifle. they all have the deluxe control panel.

For pistol.
1. Hornady size/decap
1.5 prime
2. Hornady powder measure with Hornady PTX
3. Hornady lockout die
4. Hornady bullet feeder
5. Hornady seat crimp combo

For rifle
1. Hornady size/decap
1.5 prime
2. Hornady powder measure
3. Hornady powder cop
4. Hornady rifle bullet feeder/ seater
5. Hornady crimp

Now for the last 4 years, I have an open invitation to bet any one of my 100% Hornady against any 100% Dillon. When I do this I will use Hornady brass and Hornady bullets just to rub it in.

So far I have only had one person man enough to take the bet instead of just flapping his lips on the forums.

Luckily I had my doc with me and he loads on a Dillon. After we unbolted it from the bench and loaded it into my truck he asks me what I was going to do with it. I told him I was going to sell it. He asked me what I wanted for it. I asked him how much he had in his wallet. He told me $106.00. I told him that a loser press was only was $105.00.

Not a bad price for a loser 650 with case feeder set up for 9mm.

1. Hornady fl size
2. Powder with universal expander
3. Hornady powder check
4. Hornady seat and 1st crimp
5. Lee taper crimp for final crimp

Is there such a die?

RCBS Steel sizing die which requires the use of a lube such as Hornady One Shot.
Lyman M Expander since most of the bullet I load are cast lead.
Hornady LNL powder drop
Lee seating die
Lee FCD

I use an old school RCBS steel sizing/decapping die because it sizes the case just enough to not look funny. My Lee die sizes more and creates a wasp waist looking round.

I don't use a powder check die like most of the other replies. I have a light angled so I can see into the case and visually check each round before placing the bullet.

Yes , many years ago I bought the RCBS 3-DIE CARB TC SET 45AUTO P/N 18915
I use the siize and crimp / seating die I removed the seating plug and use the die only to remove the bell . May substitute that with the Lee carbide taper FCD . Ordered and will give it a try .

I load in two passes with my LNL. First pass; resize with Hornady die, prime then expand with RCBS expander. Second pass; charge with Hornady Powder measure, RCBS lock out die, Hornady bullet feeder, Hornady bullet seater, RCBS crimp die.

Station-1- Hornady deprime/resize
" 2- Hornady powder drop with Powder Funnels flair insert.
" 3- Some kind of powder checker that I don't use for anything except to keep the plate balanced
" 4- Hornady seater with micrometer stem
" 5- Lee (at this time) taper crimp but this is subject to be another crimp die if I want it to be including a Lee FCD because I love the way they adjust the crimp with a stem instead of screwing the die in or out. Very convenient.

I just read this. This is one of the funniest things I've read in a while.

I'm hoping your friend isn't also your proctologist...

1) Hornady Carbide Sizer
2) Hornady Expander
3) Hornady Powder Measure
4) Hornady Seater/Crimp (used for seating only)
5) RCBS Seater/Taper Crimp (used for crimping only)

I have an LnL. The dies are Lee because they were given to me. I also purchased a new Lee Taper Crimp die. I have them all installed in QR bushings because I also load other calibers.

1. deprime/size
A. prime
2. powder measure
3. expander
4. bullet seat
5. taper crimp

Bobznew1: Now, for the rest of the story. Every year my doc and I go down the see the Royals play at least once a month. We stopped on the way to the game when we got the press. Now I don't drink but my doc does so I drive. When we got to the game we both order a nacho plate and drinks. I think he had 4 beers during the game. Now remember I had only left him $1.00 so I paid. Now, if you want cheap beer go to a strip club, not a ball game.

I have the Lee 4 holle turret press, using Lee carbide 4 die set.
Really doesn't matter who's press, dies, or what type of press.
The sequence is the sequence.

I have the predecessor to the LnL... a ProJector. I bought it specifically because it had 5 stations.

1) Resize/decap
2) Flare
3) Powder drop
4) Bullet seat
5) Taper crimp

I'm glad I'm not limited to 4 stations... in cartridges other than 45ACP I still seat and crimp in a separate step, if possible.
