?? For Ca. LEO's about Drivers Licences

I have always wondering what comes up on a LEO's computer when they run my licence thru the computer. Does it show that I own/bought firearms? Does it show any FBI files I may have? Does it show any time spent in county jails? Any LEOs out there willing to answer this?

I had a storage facility broken into about 7 years ago. A local LEO showed up to make a report. Among the items stolen were a couple of .22 rifles. He asked for my name and DOB. Ran a check and asked, "What about your Glock?" I said, "No, it is at home."

I was surprised. I bought it in 1989. This was 1993 or 94. Accorcing to the LEO, handguns (not rifles) were tracked in CA. I don't think I gave him my DL # because there would have been no reason to. All he needed was my name and DOB.

Am I correct about this?

MountainGun44:

In CA, a separate field inquiry can access state automated files which will return "guns registered to" based on your full name, dob and/or address. To date, that system is not linked to either the DL or vehicle registration records systems.

IME that investigative inquiry was not one routinely done in the course of a typical stop for a traffic violation. It may be conducted in cases of a theft of firearms, a crime of violence or a violation of a statute(s) having to do with firearms. It may also be used as an investigative tool for background information on someone, for instance in the case of a warrant service though, usually not probable cause for the warrant itself.

As a California resident, I am not suprised to hear this, but I am disturbed that the police can instantly know any and all firearms I own.

They keep pushing registration, but it's clear that we already have it here in Ca.

The more time I spend in this state the more angry I get at it.

Okay, this has been a while, but when you run a 10-27 on a Texas DL, you will get the full name of the driver, his home address, date of birth, physical description, license status, restrictions, and driving record including location and date of any accidents and DWI's.

It will also automatically check if a CHL has been currently issued to that person.
