For 'Anti's' who lurk...

On more than one occasion I have noticed members chastising one another for posts because of lurking 'Anti's'. Apparently because they don't like the idea of 'our own words' being used for the Gun Control movement.

I was surprised by that thinking. In my short time as a member of TFL (most of it spent lurking) I have learned more about safe gun handling and respect for firearms then I did in my basic firearms safety class.

Learned the four rules (Which do the NRA's one better IMHO)

I knew how to pick up a gun before I ever did it.

I've learned from several negligent discharges without having to put a hole in my wall.

Not to mention, there's nothing like watching someone being taken to task by their own for thinking that they are above having to worry about gun safety.

If there are any anti's lurking out there:

Read these posts.

Learn from them. These people know what they're talking about.

Then register and add your two cents. They'd love to hear from you!

same goes for me

Part of the problem lies in the fact that many, maybe even most, anti-gunners are not interested in gun safety. This is despite the fact that some of them even use that term in the title of their organization. They simply have discovered that the term "gun control" is a political loser, while no one could possibly oppose "gun safety". It's for the children, don't you know.

So if someone here, a shooter and RKBA advocate, says something vaguely anti-gun, it is easy for an anti to take the statement out of context and say "See what even the gun experts are saying? Somebody do something! Anything!" We really do need to be careful what we say and how we present ourselves here.

Tim beat me to it.

Kesserman, there's a great deal of information to be seen here. I am VERY impressed and that isn't an easy task.

The problem I think these guys see is that somebody who's unconvertibly Anti-gun will ignore all the sensible things said here and will cherry-pick the relatively few yahoos who'll say what amounts to "shoot'em all and f**k the law". Then they'll say they saw it on TFL.

But I say let them (the yahoos) say what they want. This board seems to me to have a pretty good fraction of users who make reasonable comments, whether they are in agreement with my every political feeling or not.

The only thing that concerns me is that what you write here might be cast in stone. I'm not sure how the "edit" works, i.e., you might be able to erase what you've said in the past. But I'm not sure that eliminates any record of your remarks. Even though a bigmouth might say he intends to do something illegal, like plant a weapon on a BG, he might not really ever DO it. But his statements to that effect made here could be used against him in court if he ever has to defend himself.
