It's a judgement call, both are good rounds, but I personally preffer the the 158 grain LSWC +P.

Why Winchester?

I first tried the Winchester 158gr. based on Marshall & Sanow's findings. Before the flames start, for all of M&S's supposed faults, I'm not aware of any other studies that are based on bullet performance in live humans. IMO, their studies are as good a place as any to start the process of defensive load selection.

So anyway, I tried the Winchester, found it superbly accurate from my 4" 686, and never looked back.

Federal and Remington also offer +P 158gr. LHPs. Factory ballistics are nearly identical to the Winchester.

I like the Federal 158gr. LSWCHP +P. Not the funnest round to shoot out of a .38 Ultra Lite, but has been shown to be one of the more effective .38 rounds.
