Followup Highwall question

Sorry to be a pest, and I probably already know the answer, but I've been eyeballing an old Highwall, which by serial number was made in 1888. It has a 45-70 barrel on it, with original Winchester markings... nothing about nickel steel or anything that would indicate it is a modern barrel proofed for smokeless.

Been contemplating loading AA5744 loads for trapdoor in it, at least initially, as I build up the stuff for loading black.

Perhaps someone can tell me whether this practice of loading smokeless will cause a barrel burst or similar. I do not question the integrity of the action, but most definitely do not wish to experience a blow up. I reckon I'll ask the opinion of the gunsmith, but this is a lot of money to me, which I would eagerly part with, to get this rifle.

Maybe this question doesn't really have a definitive answer, other than to try it out. But anybody know will I be safe if I load the trapdoor level loads of 5744, or maybe better, anybody have experience with this propellant in black powder rifles?

If I were you I'd take this question over to the ASSRA.com website. It's strictly dedicated to single shot rifles of this time period. They have some really knowledgeable expert gunsmiths there and lots of those guys own these types of firearms. This is a good site for a bit of everything but dedicated like that one is. You don't need a "jack of all trades" when playing with something like this. Be safe and good luck. Sounds like a very nice gun. I have a couple of High Walls but they're "modern".
