Folding rifle rack

Well I am not done with these yet but I think they turned out so good I just had to post up some pics of it so far. I made two so far and I already had a buddy ask me to make him a smaller one so I am gonna made one that fill hold 8 total, 4 on each side. These ones will hold 16 rifle, 8 on each side.

I still need to sand them and stain and clear them and I will add some felt on the bottom and in the cut outs on top.

35W x 32H x (collapsed)7D open 16"

I will post more pics as I complete these

Looks really good.

One suggestion, if I may....

Instead of a chain which only keeps the rack from folding out too far, If it were mine I would like to have the "hinges" like you see on folding card table legs that lock into position when they are fully out. This would keep the rack from folding up every time you wanted to move it to a new position without taking the rifles off.

Like this,

Thanks folks, Ron the pocket tool is awesome! Make quick work of projects. Well worth the money, they are on sale right now with a rebate also.

Precision shooter, that hing was actually in my original plans but I could not find them anywhere, any advice on where to find those?

Thanks everyone

Good looking rack. I too made a fold-able rack for use when we're out in the boonies instead of laying them on a blanket. The best thing about them is that I made them from scrap and left overs so I have exactly $0 in each one.

The 1st one I made was a 6 gun rack. It folds flat for transport to the range and storage at home. (I added felt to it after these pictures were taken.)

My son quickly commandeered it for his collection so I built a slightly heavier gauge, 8 rifle version for myself with a bit more room between the rifles. The felt at the bottom and cross piece keeps it from scratching my long guns.
