Really not familiar with Fobus ankle holsters but what I can offer is the experience I have had with several types of other ankle holsters. I would recommend that whichever one you select, it have a calf support in the form of a velcro strap. Otherwise, in order for the gun to remain stationary and not slide, it would have to be so tight that it gets uncomfortable. And, it should preferably have some type of padding so that the gun does apply a great deal of pressure against the ankle area.

One other piece of insight I can offer from personal experience is that I find ankle holsters OK for a light BUG but would not use it for a primary, unless I had no other alternative. On those occasions that I ankle holster carry, it is usually combined with activities that do not involve running or a lot of walking. I've gone dancing with my wife wearing an ankle holster and it did not interfere or become uncomfortable. I have also worn an ankle holster when going on long road trips and in place of a SOB holster.

Good Luck. Hopefully, someone else will be able to give you personal insight to the Fobus.

I have a Fobus and used it twice. The first time to try it and the second time to give it a second chance. I have not used it again and it is in a tub with the rest of the items I do not use.

This is just MY opinion. Others may have a different opinion of it. I did not find the Fobus comfortable fitting. It was too rigid to feel right to me.

That said, I have never found ANY ankle holster comfortable. Maybe my legs are not made for wearing such. But a complaint I would offer first about the Fobus is the material, be it plastic, polymer or what ever is too stiff and rubbed the calf of my leg to the point of being painful and raw.

When I am wearing a holster, I look for soft and pliable material that can bend to fit my dimensions. I do not like the fabric holsters either, I enjoy a holster made of soft glove leather with a stiffner under the leather.

i have a fobus and it works good. The padding is comfortable, and the one i have has velcro plus an extra strap that goes thru a buckle and tightens down, definitely not coming off until you want it to.

I would seriously research other carry methods if you haven't already. Ankle carry is usually regarded as the last-ditch method of carry.

P.S. I've tried it, and even with a small BUG it is uncomfortable to me. YMMV.

I have tried several ankle holsters. I finally decided that it really is a pain. Tough to use method. Draw time is awfully long.

I have tried a fobus ankle holster. Of all the ankle holsters I tried, it was the best all around design in terms of quality straps, velcro, and reasonably stable.

I really did not like their passive retention system though. The instructions say just draw the gun with appropriate force and it releases. Well, after two days of trying, and having extreme trouble drawing the gun, I said BS, and sent it back for refund.

Weight wise, your Tomcat should be manageable in an ankle holster. Check out this company, this holster was going to be my next try after I abandoned my search.

My 2 cents.

I actually have one of the fobus ankle holsters that I bought "to get me by" until I figured out which of the nicer ones I was going to fork out money for. I have yet to buy a "nicer" one. It's very comfortable and very secure, holding my BUG.
More info: My ankle carry is a 642, so it's pretty light. That being said, I use it as my BUG while on duty. Like I said earlier.... very comfortable and I run full sprint with it as well, while chasing down undesirables. It holds secure. And it DOES come out with a secure 'yank' on it. IF you are looking at it in the gun store and trying to pull it out while holding the holster with the other hand.... it is way harder to pull out. This is misleading. Strap it to your leg and yank on it. With it securely on your leg, mine comes out perfect every time.

Golfnutrlv, and others: RE: Wolverine Ankle Holsters. I recently bought one, lured in by the comfort fit and the padding they use to market their product. Can't speak for everyone but I found it to be just as uncomfortable as every other ankle holster I have tried, maybe just a bit more uncomfortable...maybe.
My legs are muscular but not extremely huge for a guy my size. I found the wrap around velcro strap to be a little short and as a result, I really had to stretch it out to get it on securely. Even with the padding, the gun dug into my ankle. I tried several different BUGs to see if any of them would make a difference...sadly, no. After a few minutes of wearing it, I ripped it off and had a fleeting thought of how much money I ****** away (again) while I tossed it into my collection area of useless, probably never use again stuff.

Although ankle carry is my last means of carry, there are times when it is the only option. In that event, I've had excellent results with the "Uncle Mikes Sidekick". This is the one with the calf strap. I am able to carry my Rossi 462(6 shot .357) all day very comfortably, with no worries about the gun slipping. One added tip...use socks that allow you to you to wear them over your weapon. It prevents the gun from showing when you're sitting down and you pantleg tends to ride up a little:eek:

Fair enough.

I've thought of carrying my BUG (Bersa .380 CC) this way. Problem is, the bottom of the magazine always seems to print badly, no matter what holster/pants/positioning combo I use. Any suggestions?

I never have that problem, even with a revolver as thick as my Rossi. I tend to position mine a little to the rear of my leg, and I always wear lose leg pants. Of course being a large frame guy (6'/260 lbs) probably helps also.

I worked at a gun store for a few years when I was in school and tried several of them. The Galco was the only one I found remotely comfortable. That said I have probably used it with a light weight .38 3 or 4 times. I find it is a pain, gives you bad access and much prefer to just use a pocket holster.

If you want to ankle carry, great, if it works for you have at it. Personally, I hate it. On to the questions in your post, Fobus = CRAP. That's the bottom line. I've had 2 and both were junk. Uncomfortable, too light, thin plastic crap. When I got a nice leather paddle holster a buddy of mine showed me waht I think is a huge problem with their design.

The holster is held to the paddle by 3 rivets, simple enough right? Too simple and not strong enough. I put my unloaded weapon in the holster and put it on and my buddy came up behind me, grabbed the grip of my Glock and pushed down on it. The holster snapped away from the paddle and my buddy was holding my weapon and the holster in his hand while the paddle was still inside my waist band. I then tried the same thing with my other Fobus, an Evolution model (or whatever their newer fancier line is called) while my buddy was wearing it with my Glock in it and sure enough, that one snapped apart too. It did not take a serious amount of force to break these holsters apart. I was seriously surprised.

In my mind that's just too big of a risk to take when carrying daily. Obviously less of an issue when carrying on the ankle but what will happen if it catches on something? I certainly wouldn't want to be worried about my holster breaking and my weapon falling off because I accidently caught my leg on a car door or something.

I have the Galco ankle glove for the Glock 27. I wear it a few times per week when I have court, etc. It is also my primary carry for "off duty". I have tried several ankle holsters both as a uniformed officer and in a plainclothes assignments. You will not find a better one than the Galco. I had the fobus (JUNK, printed bad, not good retention), Uncle Mikes (nylon, would be ok if no strenuous activity, thumb break kept coming unsnapped, gun came out in a foot pursuit), Alessi (gun came out of it in a fight and ended up on the ground). The Galco is the best, has good retention (thumb break), very comfortable (neoprene "strap" around the ankle backed with soft material.) It also has the option of the calf strap, which I do not use or find necessary. It has a good thumb break and quality snap on it.

I have a Galco ankle holster and carry a PM-9 Khar. It is so comfortable i forget it's on. It stays put and does not need a strap on the calf of the leg. About $50.00 and worth every penny.
