FNS 9 vs FNX 9

The FNS is the Glock Killer, donchaknow? All of their serial numbers start with GK because of that.

I'm not saying I agree with that... it's just their own little jab.

One is striker fired, one is DA/SA. 2 different trigger types, basically the same ergonomics otherwise. Pick which one you like better. For a striker fired gun, the FNS has a fairly high bore axis. If I was going to accept the higher bore axis, I'd probably take the Sig P320 instead.

The FN's are solid guns, though I hear their customer service is lacking. No personal experience with that.

I have no experience with the Fnx.

I have an fns-9. I absolutely love the gun. I think it is the most underrated striker fired gun out there. The trigger, while not as good as my vp9, is decent and very predictable. It may have a slightly higher bore axis, but you can't tell when shooting it. If I were picking one gun to go do some quick/competition shooting, it would be my fns.

They come with 3 17 round magazines as well. Hickok45 also really seems to like this gun. I have about 1k rounds through mine with 0 malfunctions. I have yet to completely disassemble it, but it looks as simple as a glock.

Did I mention you can find them under $500 new?

I've shot both. The ergonomics are identical - the only difference is the action (striker vs DA/SA). It's a personal choice - most people prefer strikers for their consistency, while I prefer that heavy DA first pull as an extra safety feature. Regardless, I think it's an excellent and underrated gun.

I had an FNX 40. I actually really liked it. I hear bad things though about durability and difficult repairs due to the design. I only owned it for a few months.

I have the FNX 40 be-caws it has the thumb safety. I have had NO trouble with it. It shoots 6 in at 25 yards with this 74 year old man.

I had been considering the FNS-9 for a long time, but I got to hold one today and the grip does not work for me at all. Shame. Quality-wise it seemed like a good gun and the sights were decent.

I also like SA/DA for carry guns because a little extra trigger pull is the only safety I want between rest and ready. Like a revolver, you can either pull through or thumb-cock it for the first shot. Of course, you get plenty of options here. The safety lever on the FNX works like a manual safety if pushed up and a decocking lever if pushed down. If you engage the safety while cocked, it stays "cocked and locked". Essentially, they've got the hammer-fire community covered.

I only wish it was a little more ergonomic. Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking the aggressive grip texture. It holds fantastically with or without gloves. I just feel like the H&K P30 changed the game for hammer-fire ergonomics. Of course, putting a decocking button on the back next to the hammer is a little funky...

FNS9 vs. FNX9

I would prefer the FNX allowing you the flexibility to fire single action. I personally prefer a DA/SA action. It comes from my training with the Sig Sauer. Having fired both FN models, the FNX is a fine firearm. It would depend what you plan to use the pistol for, personal defense/target/competition shooting. Good luck.
