FNS-9 compact, questions

Yes, it feels closer to single action, but most striker fired guns are designed to barely quality as DAO in order to qualify for LEO regulations.

Double action means pulling the trigger also partially cocks the gun. This is more significant on Glocks... but on most striker guns, the sear camming action moves the striker rearward ever so slightly... just enough to qualify as double-action. M&P's are very slight. XD's are single action as they to not move the striker rearward at all.

It's just semantics... the FNS does not have a long heavy trigger like you're thinking of with a hammer fired DAO gun.

this is what I wanted to know, thank you for the reply.

if anyone has anything on the quality, accuracy, feel etc. etc. of the FHN pistol please chime in...

I own a full size FNS and it is my favorite striker fired handgun. (I also own a VP9, G20, G17 and G43). I can shoot tighter groups with the VP9, but I can shoot a lot faster accurately with the FN. In my opinion it is the most underrated striker fired pistol out there. I don't have experience with the compact, but every review I read is very good. I also have read that the owners are having a hard time getting magazines for them.

I'm out of reach of a computer but if you search threads started by me I did a pretty thorough review I think some time ago.

Thanks for the quick review Dirty_Harry. Good point about finding mags, a quick search turns up nothing for the compact so this will be a negative factor for me. Also holster options would need to be looked into.
I've always had the propendency to lean towards the less popular choices and FHN is the only company I know that makes a high capacity compact with an external safety.

thanks for the link Uncle Malice,

Tunnel Rat, if you have time to reply have you been able to eventually find spare mags for the compact model and how about good CCW holsters for this?
excellent review BTW....

I actually sold the pistol. I honestly think the M&P 9c (which can be had with what is imo a more usable external safety) is frankly as good and accessories are easy to find. I do think you can find holsters now (check AlienGear).

Thanks Uncle for posting the link!

this is interesting apparently I havent shopped for guns in a long time, that there are striker fired options out there with a thumb safety. thanks for sharing everyone.

Just to be fair, I, too, own an FNS9c and an M&P9c. They are both great guns. I think the trigger on the FNS is a little better. It has been 100% through about 300 rounds so far. The FNS compact is a fairly new model so, indeed, accessories are not yet plentiful. It comes with three magazines - 2 twelve rounders and 1 seventeen rounder with a grip sleeve. Extra magazines are just now hitting retailers and probably will be sucked up quickly for a while. And, for what it's worth, it is available with an ambidextrous thumb safety.

I own a nice pile of striker fired pistols. To me the FNS 9c is the top of the heap. Very good trigger, excellent ergonomics, aggressive textured grip, easy ambi controls, the huge front dot sight is far and away above any other OEM sight offered. It's a soft shooter and extremely reliable with 124gr or higher loads. (Stiff springs make the 115gr stuff a bit less reliable). They may be a little late to the striker fired party on this model, but they took their time, studied the best aspects of all the other major players and incorporated them all into one pistol. Three mags instead of two, or (gasp) one, straight from the factory is a huge bonus!

Re: FNS 9 compact mags. It's a new gun and the pipeline is just starting to fill... They're still in short supply, but were supposed to be getting out there, in mid-late August...

You might want to join the FNS forum: http://fnforum.net/forums/fn-fns/

I picked up two FNS-40s, recently in a trade, one is a 40L (long slide) that has had trigger work done. Very nice guns, and I shot them better than any .40 I've owned (including some well-tuned Glock 35s and a S&W M&P Pro in .40).
