FN to import new P35 Hi-Powers?

I heard somewhere that FN was going to start selling MK3 P35 military Hi-Power pistols in the US under their own name (instead of Browning), and that they would be considerably cheaper than the Browning pistols. Is this true? Anybody got the whole story?

According to an inquiry from one of the posters here (letter and reply is posted under news at www.fnhipower.com), FN-USAs Law Enforcement division is going to import the Hi-Power MkIII in both 9mm and .40 when Browning stops importing the gun.

I talked with Browning customer service as recently as this Spring and they assured me that they were still importing Hi-Powers - although I sure haven't seen any new ones on my dealer's shelf in a while.

Here's the email I got from FN:

Thank you for your e-mail concerning the Hi-power pistol. We plan to import
a quantity of the FN produced pistols in the Mark III variety. They will
have the military finish. We expect the first delivery of 9mm by the end of
the year. Some 40 S&W pistols will be imported sometime next year. At the
present time our distribution is primarily law enforcement focused.
However, several of our distributors also have non-law enforcement
components to their business. At the appropriate time you could have your
dealer contact one of the following distributors:

I hope this information is helpful.

Best regards,

This, to me, is great news--although it also means that I'll have to start saving up some money.

Does anyone know which distributors will be handling the FN HPs? If I knew, I could ask the local gunshop to give them call for pricing and availability.

TIA.
