FN SLP

I'm a LEO in Miami, FL., my department is about to allow semi-auto shotguns into our approved weapons list. I saw and handled the FN SLP while at the SHOT Show and was very impressed with it. So much that I'm looking to get one for both duty and home.

So, who has experience with one? The function, reliability, maintenance, etc. I'll be using 00buck, number 4 buck, and slugs. Any help will be appreciated.

It's an impressive package, but the lights at the SHOT Show are pretty bright, if you know what I mean. Will you have the opportunity to shoot one before you cough up the cash? Nothin' like a test drive before you buy a new car.

Of the available FNH tactical shotguns I, like you, find the original, GR sighted SLP the best of the lot. I do not own one... only fired several, and came very close to buying one. I may still some day.

Although they are a bit more dear price-wise, take the time to look at the Benelli M2 Tactical and if available, the Fabarm SAT 8.
Not that the SLP is a bad gun by any means, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not including the Benelli and Fabarm weapons in your considerations.

Best 'O luck,
C

I like this model quite a bit, never fired it but the handling is superb. However, and I'm not just saying this cause you'll be picking up the tab personally, have you checked out the Mossberg 930 SPX? At half to a third of the price of an SLP, Wilson TR-11/87 or Benelli M2 Tac, you get the same level of berformance. I would never have trusted my life to an automatic shotgun before getting a chance with the 930 HS and SPX models (Just bought a Saiga 12, as a project/range toy, SPX is still near the top of my list). It is almost identical to the SLP, with the exception of a tang safety which I favor. SLP is an outstanding choice (of Belgian descent, have high regard for FN products except that lousy Forty Nine pistol boasting a trigger that made a Sigma feel like a 1911) but if you can, give the SPX a day in court. Another non-issue might be more technical support, spare parts availability, that sort of thing...big picture stuff probably of no consequence. Maybe you may think of Mossberg and picture some dumb pistol grip pump with a dummy silencer on the muzzle, make no mistake-the 930 can hang with the best of them and the SPX has all the salient features of the SLP for less than half the price. I think you will like it.
+1 to Creeper on the M2 Tactical...the action on a Benelli is smooth as silk and cycle time beyond the capabilities of all index fingers. (Never saw a Fabarm auto in person but CDNN had an incredible sale on them a while back 499 IIRC with a PGO included in the package). I have seen also however, pics of the economical Mossberg with 6+ hulls in the air, youtube has numerous demos of blinding speed from the SPX. Just check one out. I even love the recoil pad. Other than Benelli's ergo gelpad, when was the last time a buttpad made an impression on ya even before firing? And the tang safety switch, try it and you'll never go back. Before the SPX came out the shotty I wanted was an SLP (even at this time, was taught never to trust a self shucker). Sorry to make this post about another/rival/different shotgun but they really are damn near the same gun. Oh, they have a model now with what looks the same pistol grip stock as the old Beretta 1201 FP3. I prefer he feel of the conventional style

Good luck and stay safe on the street.

Take the time to check out the Mossberg SPX, you will have a hard time telling it apart from the SNP. You might want to check out the Federal LE low recoil ammo.
