FN SCAR 17S

I went to the local gun shop last night with the intent of purchasing either a RRA AR or M&P 15. But then I held the .308 SCAR and I fell in love with it. About 4 lbs lighter than my M1A Loaded. Want the M1A for long range, 700+ yards and another battlerifle/carbine.Thinking of foregoing the AR rifles and getting the SCAR with an ACOG.

Anyone have any experience with the SCAR?

Despite what some jealous posters may say- If you can at all afford one, get it. You can't go wrong with an FN. I really want one myself and could have had one for the money I spent on two turds from S&W.

FN is fantastic, but the price point limits most shooters. If you can save up I would suggest doing so. I've had a lot of fun shooting them!
Yes these are all FNHUSA

I like the SCARs a lot, but they do have negatives from my experience:

1) The selector switch is too small for most shooters, if you are used to an AR switch you find yourself searching for it. Easily replaced though.

2) The inside of the reciever gets just as much carbon build-up as a DI system, though piston systems are supposed to be cleaner. The reciever also has a lot of small, sharp grooves that the carbon accumulates in and is hard to get to to clean.

3) This is not really a negative in my view, but the recoil pulse is a lot slower than most AR shooters are used to. When my unit fielded SCARs this was the single biggest complaint. It feels different but does not bother me at all.

I think you will like your SCAR in 308. The negatives I listed are tiny and subjective. Just trying to give you as much info as possible to make an informed choice.

I will be picking one up one way or another when I get back from deployment. Tactical Weapons for Law Enforcement magazine had a big article about it and they had nothing but great things to say about it. Super accurate, very ergonomic.. just a top of the line weapon.

Price point is a little high for the casual shooter, but that is certainly not stopping me. The .308Win is probably my favorite round and I am really looking forward to picking one up. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
