Tell me about it.

Saw some pictures and little description of it. I'm impressed that someone actually, really re-thought the submachinegun (any gun for that matter) from square one.
Unfortunately, besides pictures and a few sentences, I can't find any info about it.

- Barrel length?
- Ammo feeding mechanism?
- Design principles/history?
- Optics?
- Overal dimensions?
- Any chance of a civilian getting one in the US? semi-auto version maybe?

It's quite intriguing...
 
Chances will be nil at getting one. There is a good article in the Guns magazine COMBAT Annual 2000.
 
Any firearm cambered in 5.7X28mm isnt avaliable to civilians in the US because the cartridge was designed to defeat level IIIA body armour - obviously a plus if you are crime wanting to do battle with the law.

My department has four of them, and they are truly scarey. I fired at 1/4" angleiron, and it looked loke someone had cut holes in the metal with a torch. I don't know about the terminal effects, but it is DEFINITELY armor-piercing. The bullet is supposed to tumble 180 degrees in the target and provide a non-survivable wound from any torso hit. At least that's what we've been told. It's also supposed to have very little penetration through wallboard, but I haven't shot that yet. It is LE and military only.
There is no difference in barrel length from the subgun and the pistol. the subgun has a suppressor that can be attached to the barrel in place of the flash suppressor. It is about 6" long by about 1.25" diameter. there is an AP round, a tracer round, and a subsonic round. There is NO felt recoil when firing, and a fifty round magazine can be emptied without any appreciable change in point of aim. we have aimpoints on ours.

Nice first-hand summary. Makes me want to get a Class III license in NY (only slightly easier than moving a mountain) just to get my hands on one.

What is the barrel length?
 
I don't have my reference material at hand (and they won't let us take them home!), but around five inches or so. the action is located immediately above and slightly behind the trigger/grip assy. The safety is a dial at the bottom of the trigger guard and works EXTREMELY well. Everyone likes it.
 
I called one of my teammates and he advised a bbl length of 7.25" on the subgun, and about five on the pistol. We haven't gotten those yet, but they're on order.
 
Anyone have a picture of a disassembled P90 magazine? I am curious how they got the rounds to rotate 90 degrees?

Nyterunner: I read some place that the FN P90 (where is my F'n P90 damnit?!)has one reliability problem.
I read that if a large portion of the magazine was expended then the weapon was exposed to a stiff physical blow (being dropped or whacked into the wall by excited personell) that the rounds in the magazine would become disorganized.
Any truth to that?

Easily handled with either one hand or two, left or right (thanks to the bottom ejection). Low recoil makes it very pleasant to shoot and controllable in the full auto mode.
