FN or Canik

Curious if any of you have had trigger time with both the FNS-9 and a Tp9SA. I have been able to dry fire the Fns but due to trigger locks at major outdoor stores, I've yet to feel the trigger on the Canik. Looking for a full size winter carry gun (polymer). Just trying to get some different ideas. Open to other suggestions. Thanks

I have tried both. I'm not a huge fan of striker fired guns so take what I say with a grain of salt but I found both triggers so-so. Canik seemed to have the edge in my opinion. I shot these two and a glock 17 at the same time. I would have ranked them in personal preference as follows: Canik, glock, FN.

Labhound, how is the accuracy on your FNS? I have nowhere within a close proximity of me that I could test fire before buying, unfortunately. How does it compare to other 9mm handguns that you have experience with?

RollTideRoll I have several 9's, Glock 19, Beretta 92FS, Beretta PX4, Ruger SR9, CZ 75 B, S&W M&P 9, Stoeger Cougar 8000, and the FNS 9. All of them are very accurate, actually hard to separate them. The FNS just fits my hand well, has ambi controls, excellent sights, good trigger, nothing I dislike about it. Of course hammer fired triggers feel different than striker fired ones, but honestly when using any of them in fast shooting competition like IDPA, I honestly don't pay much attention to the difference. How quickly I can pick up the sights is my biggest concern and the FNS and PX4 both have nice factory sights. I put Trijicon HD night sights with the orange front ring on my Glock 19 and I love them. I have since started painting the front sight dot/blade on most of the guns I use in IDPA with Testors florescent orange model paint and it really aids in picking up the front sight quickly.

I have no idea what the FN cost but the Canik is very nice I had no problems with the one I got and the price is right

decent triggers on both, but neither can compare to an M&P with complete Apex kit.

No striker fired gun can compare... even the PPQ. :)

I have Glocks, M&Ps, a Sig, an HK, a Walther, an XD, an XDm, and an FNS9c. No experience with the Canik.

As to the FNS, it's always been 100%, I love the sights, I love the ambi controls (I'm a lefty), and feel that the trigger and the accuracy is at least on par with all the rest. I really feel that the FNS is, undeservedly, the most unappreciated and most unheralded striker-fired handgun out there.

I have felt both and like the FN better in my hand. I do have a FNX 45 and it is a joy to shoot at the range.

Caniks quality is superb. I have their s120. It doesn't like S&B ammo mind you...

Until I shot the SB ammo I had zero faults in around 600 shots out through it. I've yet to shoot the tp9sa but I will. If I like it I plan to buy it as well and had it as a home defense gun. Still too large to carry imo. I'll go with a CZ po9 duty for that...

Canik gets my vote for sure.

I've never shot the Canik and I own the FNS-9 (my EDC) so I am biased here.

The only negative I have with the FNS is the trigger has a gritty pull. The break is clean and the reset is on par with all the other poly striker fired guns. Gun feels amazing in my hand, so comfortable. Accuracy is fine with the factory night sights. Out of the box I've had zero malfunctions and that is running all types of ammo from cheap steel FMJ stuff to the +P defensive JHPs. It has worked when super clean, dripping with oil, dry and there was a year long period where I went without cleaning it to see if it'd run filthy and I haven't had any hiccups.

Long story short, love the FNS. That takes my vote. I believe all FN's pistols are worth the price. They are like CZ's, once you shoot one, you tend to end up owning one.

oh

I was told and read that the current 2015 production M&P's trigger has been improved to a point where the Apex trigger is NO LONGER a must, so why do guys
here AUTOMATICALLY ALWAYS say you MUST get the Apex trigger or else the
M&P is garbage?!
Seems like its just internet nonsense to me.

I have a 2015 production M&P9 FS and the trigger is nothing to write home about. I have not shot a pre-2015 M&P so I can't compare the two. Between the trigger on my M&P and it's mediocre accuracy, it's been a disappointment. I refuse to spend a dime on upgrading the trigger to get it as good as my stock Gen 4 G19.

FNS all day long.

It is my favorite striker fired handgun. I have owned an M&P 45, SW99 (basically the same as the Canik), Glock 23 and currently own:

Glock 17 Gen 3
Glock 20 Gen 2
Glock 43 Gen 4 (I guess)
HK VP9
FNS 9

I cant print as small of groups with it as my VP9, but that is more the sights than the pistol. I can shoot this thing stupid fast and keep all rounds on target. It is my go to handgun if I am competing. I plan to buy a longslide version eventually.

The trigger is heavy, but very predictable. It gets better as you put rounds down range. I have about 1500 through mine. It doesnt like low powered re-manufactured ammo, but eats regular stuff up. As I have stated on this forum many times, this is the most underrated striker fired handgun.

It only has 2 downsides:

1. Mag release. Personal preference, but I prefer the Euro (HK/Walther) style. Most will disagree with me.

2. Looks. I thinks its fugly. Again, not really a minus.
