This afternoon I saw a pistol that I don't remember ever hearing about. An LEO friend of mine bought it new today from the local police distributor.
The pistol is 9mm, made by FN in Belgium, and imported by FN in South Carolina. It's marked "HP-DA," which I take to mean Hi-Power Double Action. It was made in 1999, according to the date code ("NN") in the serial number. It came with two restricted 14-round mags, although the distributor told my friend that 10-round mags are available.
This pistol is obviously based on the BHP, but although it is DA/SA, it is very definitely not a BDM. In fact, neither my friend nor the distributor knew anything about it, and only this one HP-DA was for sale.
Does anyone know if the HP-DA is a standard production item? Is it currently being imported? I'd appreciate hearing anything anybody knows about it.
TIA.
