I have seen the FN Five-seven 5.7x28mm handgun and wanted input regarding three categories, from a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the worst and 10 being the best. I realize this is subjective but please try your best :) Thank you.

1. Reliability.

2. Concealed Carry.

3. Stopping Power.

Very reliable and clean shooting.
A bit large to conceal easily, but lightweight.
Depends on what you hit, as with any round.

Great gun... I like mine very much but I don't carry it.

Don't own one but from the one I was able to handle at Budd's in Lexington, it seemed big for the caliber...but then again, I'm a big bore, CCW advocate, i.e. a caliber that begins with a "4". I also say that there's very little if any "street" use data on it. Rod

From my experience I would rate the reliability at 9.5. Only had one problem with mine from day one and it was an easy fix. I think with the right holster it is extremely easy to carry concealed despite its size, so personally I would rate it an 7. I use a SHTF IWB and can't even tell that I'm carrying it. As for stopping power, from the few examples of real world shootings I feel that it has more than enough stopping power for self defense. I'm completely confident in it, so my rating would be an 8.

Well, Marvin Harrison allegedly used one in that murder case he allegedly got away with...

"from the few examples of real world shootings I feel that it has more than enough stopping power for self defense."
Exactly. There is little evidence it is not similarly effective to 9mm, but that doesn't stop people from claiming it is on par with 22mag pistols or 32acp

"I also say that there's very little if any "street" use data on it"
You'd be wrong on that. Between Fort Hood, some scattered usage by various groups (good and bad), and posted examples from pistol hunters, the round clearly hangs with typical defense rounds for the most part.

But it doesn't use a fat bullet, so it tempts skeptics (much like 223 back-in-the-day). Naturally, the speed & accuracy intrinsic to the pistol doesn't figure in...

You see? So weak the charges didn't take :p

I had the use of one and a supply of FN SS-192 ammo for several months. Reliability - 9, concealed carry - 5, stopping power - 5. I did witness one malfunction with the SS-192 ammo. It is big for CC but obviously doable. The actual duty ammunition is AP which claim to fame is the ability to penetrate body armor. This ammo is not generally available to the public and not desirable for general civilian concealed carry anyway. Perhaps CCW/SD ammo has been developed that has proven to be as effective as the better 9MM, .40 S&W, 45ACP,etc loadings but I am unaware of this at this point. In any case, unless I expected to be assaulted by body armor clad assailants, I would, and do, stick with the more pedestrian calibers....ymmv
