How about this question to you FAL-natics. If you could get a new(er) FAL, would you be better off getting it in METRIC or ENGLISH???
Thanks for the GREAT SUGGESTIONS guys...

English aparently have better magazines and a folding cocking lever(I have no idea what the possible benefit of this is), as well as a lot of other nifty features.

Most people prefer the English standard rifles.

Metric.

I used to think I wanted an inch-pattern FAL, until I examined the p-grip and started pricing parts & whatnot. The inch-pattern p-grip is terrible.

The folding cocking handle is kind of cool, but I prefer the large, easy to find in a hurry, metric version.

Inch-pattern rifles tend to have the last-shot bolt hold open disabled, but it's easy to re-enable them, so that comes out in the wash.

Metric magazines are dirt cheap. Reportedly, you can use these in inch pattern rifles, but they'll be a bit loose in the mag well.

English? I call it the Inch Pattern.
Primarily the L1A1 has the floding charging handle that I prefer.

Any one want one for 400 bucks?
I know a place selling one new for that price - but I aint tellin where!

Metric. Metric mags, parts etc. are much more available than inch pattern stuff.
As for the Brit magazines being better somehow, I just don't see how you could make a better magazine than the Steyr of Austria steel FAL mags that DSA www.dsaarms.com sells for $12 each in as-new condition.
