FN BDA9 questions?

This is sort of a modern day hi power.
Does anyone out their know if this uses the same hi-power magazines?
I beleive the full capacity for the BDA is 14 rounds. This gun and the BDA0(DAO version) are the only legal FN guns in California.

I held a BDA9 Compact at a gun shop last week.

That is a neat little pistol, slightly larger than a kahr p9.

I am pretty sure they are made by FNMI of South Carolina under license from FN. The gun is marked FN Herstal and stamped with FNMI.

They wanted 625 for this one. It had a fairly short stubby grip but it gave a good three finger hold.

The BDA is a SA/DA with a decocker. The BDAO is DAO but is otherwise the same gun. The gun comes with 10 round mags for subjects, leos get 14 in the full size version.

I am not certain, however, I don't think the regular HP mags will work in the full size version. I am sure they would not work in the compact version.

The finish was like a black paint, neatly applied but not my favorite finish. Hopefully it is fairly tough.

I would like to have one and am contemplating one of these for my next addition. Just got to decide what goes out so this can come in!

I've got a full sized FN BDA9 and it's a great shooting pitol. I've only put about 200 rounds thru it so-far, so no real lengthly test as of yet.

Things I like better than the traditional BHP... mine has a fantastic Double/Single Action trigger. No hammer bite as on the traditional BHP that I've had in the past... and that's about all.

AS mentioned earilier.. not sure about the black coating they put on the gun, however it's supposed to be VERY corosion resistant and such.. so only time will tell. Mine also has night-sights that seem to work properly and decently.

Accuracy was very good and recoil was very easy... as w/most 9mm loads. No jamming or mis-feeds.

My dad fell in love w/this gun and told me I better never sell/get rid of this one unless it's to him... lol. ;)

Why does FN have to have such a retarded webpage? Talk about a poor layout...

anyway, more info on the BDA9 can be found here on the (better designed) FN Herstal webpage.

Damn. Now I want one...does it take standard HP mags?

In answer to your question, No, the standard Hi-Power magazines will not work with the HPDA.
There are 15 round magazines that will work with the gun. Pre-Ban magazines from the discontinued Browning BDM will fit perfectly. The frame on the HPDA is almost identical to the BDM. There are a few of these pre-ban magazines available (I was able to secure two for my BDM) but they are expensive ($80 - $125 each)

BTW $625 seems rather high for the compact model. Saw one at the last gun show and it was priced at $550.

The good thing is that the mags should work the other way too. I'm just happy when I can get ANY mags for my BDM.

Dino,

Since I posess a couple of these 15 round mags, I may have to check into the HPDA myself.. We have a show this weekend so I may do a few inquires.
