Does anyone have any more info about the FN-57?

I really like the idea of that sort of gun. But I don't think we'll ever have a chance to own one. I was reading about it last night in G&A Handguns issue or Shooting Times. The trigger guard-guard looks sort of goofy also.

I have to agree with Ben about us ever getting one. The main reason is in an article I was reading about a few months ago was that the 5.7X28 MM is an armor-penetrating round, which mean that antis will be jumping on this "child-killing handgun that can shoot through body armor doomsday device" If it is marketed in the US, I'll be sure to buy one. (You never know when you will need some armor-penetration... )

The 5.7mm round is similar in concept to some old wildcat cartridges (see http://www.reloadbench.com/cartw.html ).

AFAIK, handgun ammunition is not considered "armor penetrating" for purposes of law unless the bullets consist primarily of something besides lead (and copper). That's why 5.56 SS109 isn't banned - it's primarily lead (it's relevant because you can shoot it out of handguns).

The reason we can't get the 57 is because of the F'ed up import rules - it has no "sporting purpose", the same reason we can't get import more real HK's or a SIG550.

There's pretty much nothing stopping you from building a handgun that shoots this neat cartridge... assuming you can get the parts made and find appropriate cases.

After reading some internet articles of it, I was like, "damn, too bad I cant have it". I do not beleive that you can import the gun, or even the ammo. I have read some things about the ammo, like it can puncture a kevlar helmet, and 40+ plys of kevlar. I dunno, anyway cool gun.
